Anyone go from a Goosebox to a GenY? I'm considering it, my Goosebox has bent twice hauling my 351M, and I also have clearance issues because of a bed cover. Just wondering how the two compare for dampening in the truck.

oops, I was accidentally replying to an old post originally haha.
@Overtaxed - I never had a goose box but my GenY has been solid hauling my 381M over thousands of miles so far.
and wow, I'm surprised it bent! Aren't the goose box's only rated for like 18k lbs or something? either way I'm still surprised it bent, that sucks!

Mine is rated for 20K. It's the roads, they are ridiculous in the north east, I've hit some joints/potholes where I'm surprised it didn't break the ball right off the truck.

It bent where the shocks attach near the ball. It's a 1/2in bolt that just can't seem to take it. I was thinking of going to a grade 8 bolt, but I also have the problem that the Goosebox can hit the rails for my bed cover. So if the GenY would fix both, I'd consider making the change. I suspect I can get pretty good $$ for my Goosebox locally, it's a good hitch, it just can't take driving over a live mine field (I-88 in NY, I'm talking about you!).

Yeah those darn roads, it's amazing how crappy some can be!

When you say the goose box hits your rails for your bed cover, I'm assuming that means when you at a very sharp turn?

One thing I like about the Gen-Y when is not having to worry about the airbag. There are no settings or anything, you just hook up and go.

My Gen-Y doesn't hit my rails even at about 90°. Their originally design was a couple inches longer and caused issues but that's all been resolved now with their "new" design which was updated quite awhile back.

For what it's worth, I have the B&W goose ball with the quick detach handle on it. I think it is 1 or 1 1/2" higher than a standard ball to account for where the handle attaches, it needs the longer neck.

I have the BW ball too. What a piece of industrial art that thing is (unfortunately, it's also priced like art!).

Yes, that's exactly the issue, on a very sharp turn, it'll hit the rails for my tonneau cover (a Truxedo LowPro). It's too low in the bed, so the "wide" part of the hitch can hit it. It's never done any big damage, but I would like to be done with that as something else to worry about.

What cover do you have on your truck? How far do the rails extend/how much width do you lose? Mine is about 1.5in of extension into the bed.

it is! The ball is amazing, but yes expensive. I'm glad that one is already paid for last year haha.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't too clear. I have good clearance but I do NOT have a cover on my truck, so not exactly apples to apples there :/

But, since you have the ball in place you have a reference point if you wanted to look up the dimensions of the Gen-Y to see if you would have clearance before it hit your rails. The dimensions are posted on their site on the product page.

I have the Truxedo Pro X15 Tonneau cover and I have ZERO issues with the Gen Y. I have nearly 7 inches of rail clearances and have had no issues with sharp turns and coming close to my cab. The Gen Y is a beast and I have no worries of it getting bent on rough roads. I also have the B&W ball....best on the market.
