    My question as well. Why weigh it down? Seems to me if it has nothing in it and the wind were to move it a bit, there would be nothing to spill out. If there were anything in it, it would be heavy already. What am I missing?

    We've been a couple of sites that if you didn't weigh the sewer hose down it wouldn't stay in the sewer opening due to
    the lousy design of said sewer opening.

    What Howard said is correct and more..
    Most sower connections have a threaded end on the sewer connection and on your connection. If the threads don't work, the weight is necessary.

    Water in the hose may keep the hose in place, but won't help with the part that goes in the opening sometimes. It can still flip out. Usually just a poor design.
