I use to live in California, registration for trucks are like mortgage payments. I just paid my yearly registration for my '19 3500 SRW in Tennessee, $29.

Dammitman.........you just let the cat out of the bag! But yes, we live in E. TN and that number is accurate. My Momentum triple axle trailer is even less than that...........oops, I guess I let the cat out of the bag too!

However... there can be over 10% sales tax on everything else in Tennessee. Even food is taxed at 4%. Compared to vehicle registration, we spend more on other things to live.

I know this thread is digressing, but I bet the income taxes are cheaper in those states than in MN.

Every state is going to take what they need/want, just in different ways. In Illinois I pay $52 annually to register my Solitude, $126 annually to register my F-350, 8% sales tax on everything and $12,000 property taxes on my bricks & sticks......an oh yeah, gas & diesel taxes that are double what anyone else is paying.

The county that I live in has a total tax of 9.75 on most items. Sales tax on vehicles though is either 6.5 or 7%.....can't remember for sure. Property taxes in the county I live in are unbelievable low when compared to many, many states. Another thing I like about TN is that a regular driver's license is all you need to tow your trailer or drive something like a diesel pusher. My Dually and Momentum 394M combined weight is 29,xxx lbs......and a regular driver's license is all I need.

On a side note, regarding the property taxes....We moved here about 15 years ago. When we started looking for houses we were simply shocked at the real estate tax numbers. The house we bought, the taxes were about 1/3 of the taxes that I had been paying on a house that I owned in IL......and the house in TN was valued approx. 50% more than the house in IL. I thought that it was a typo on the ad for the house.......it wasn't!

Hmmm... we have an F250 diesel. I think our truck weighs about 8800 pounds. Does your 350 really weigh over 10,000 pounds? Just curious what would be on a 350 to make it that much heavier. Thanks.

I believe the GVWR, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, is what he was referring to, not the weight of the truck. The GVWR Rating rather than actual truck weight is what most States base registrations on.

We have a F-350 Crew Cab Short Box DIESEL and the GVWR is 11,500 lbs. the actual empty weight with full fuel truck weight is 8,017 lbs. Payload is 3,483 lbs.

He didn't say that his F350 weighs over 10,000 lbs, he just said IF it weighs over 10,000 lbs. Now if he actually meant GVWR....which is the Gross Vehicle Weight RATING, then yes, all of the F350 truck will have a GVWR over 10,000 lbs. My Dually has a GVWR of 14,000 lbs, but weighs around 9500 lbs without the 60 gallon aux. tank.
