Why the ugly front wheels on a dually?

    Random question of the day.
Why not a nice alloy wheel for the front wheels of a dually, why do they all look like cheap hubcaps?
    🧐😁

I think its a cost cut issue. As they are pretty interesting.

Maybe it has to do with tire rotation when all six tires are rotated. At some point the wheels will be reversed 180 degrees such as when the wheel in the picture moves to an outside rear position.

Yes you are correct on rotation, but I believe style is what JM0397 was commenting on.

I've never really noticed from where I'm sitting, which is usually in the front seat and they're not visible from there. Don't really care what other people think.

At least with the Ford dually (and I think the others), you do NOT do a 6 wheel rotation. You can only swap/rotate the wheels side to side in the same position. The front wheels are polished only on the outside. The outside rear wheel are only polished on the inside. And the inner rears are steel rims. Unless you want to look at a fairly ugly unpolished wheel, you are stuck with the same position for each wheel.

That’s what I’m assuming, side to side rotation only... and I hate the polished chrome wheels in front. Seems to be all brands. Maybe I’ll just need to buy 2 allow wheels with a dually! Seems like maybe it’s one of those”because that’s the way they’ve always been” sort of answers.
(I don’t yet have a dually but considering the upgrade)

Found this, and some of the answers make sense, so that front can be rotated to back - is this proper rotation on a dually?

As usual, this is all good info from everyone. I had an 03 Chevy dually and since it was a lower trim level, it came with 6 steel wheels. When I rotated the tires, I rotated all 6 since they would all fit, no matter the position. To get past the steel look, I put on stainless steel wheel skins which looked decent, IMO.
