We decided to leave our seasonal campground because of wildfire smoke. So got chance to check new truck out towing. I have to say it was great. We had the bed packed with lots of stuff, and our trailer attached. I found the truck to be extremely smooth. It felt more stable than our 3/4 ton. It could be the longer wheelbase. The turning radius sucks, but the overall driving experience was awesome. I should have went for the one tone and LB earlier, instead of buying three trucks in three years. The next test will be towing the trailer with our Razor 900 trail in the bed. We’re going to Utah to ride next month. I will experiment with it just to make sure we’re good without airbags, which I hope so.

Everyone talking about the turning radius on F350's. Did you know that you can get a F350 with a heavy duty front end that is really the F450 front end and has that sharp turning radius. I have a 2016 F350 DRW with this front end and love it. The turning is so much better then my old 2008 F350 DRW.

They stopped offering that option a few years ago (2017 maybe?), to steer people to the 450 I would assume.

It was called the heavy payload package, AKA "tow boss". You can ID by the same front fender flares that a 450 sports. I do believe it had a higher payload capacity than the 450 (both 14k gvwr) because it was a bit lighter because of smaller brakes.

Hmmm only thing I know is that my 2015 SRW LB CC turning really sucked. The 2018 F-350 DRW CC LB turns much faster than the SRW Both are 4X4Click image for larger version.

    Increasing Payload

Chris, If I spec a TV the same as yours with one exception: Supercab 164.2" WB (No Crew Cab) and change the 310GK to a Reese Goose Box (eliminate the weight of the fifth wheel hitch plus regain the use of the truck bed) the Ford brochure shows a Payload of 4720 lbs Would I have more net usable payload than your current set-up? If so by how much?

I looked at 2018 F350 Diesel Supercab basic Lariat and the yellow sticker on the door jam was 3512 and it was the highest F350 Diesel SRW payload we found on several lots and probably 30 different F350's. I had a stripped 2015 F350 Diesel Lariat with zero added options other than what comes with the Lariat package and had 3744. I don't think you will find an SRW with the payload of 4700 pounds.

If the dealer tells you that it will say 4720 on the sticker make him put in writing and a condition of being able to refuse the truck.

Pdement, it is very helpful if you quote the person/information you are referencing. There a re a number of Chris' on the forum. Assuming you are asking me, I will try to answer, but that is a very loaded questions. There are a lot of variables involved.

First, I am not sure where your 4,720# and 164.2" WB are from. Ford's numbers do vary a little from brochure to brochure. I am looking at the 2019 Ford specs at https://www.ford.com/trucks/super-du...s/f350-lariat/ under payload. They list 4,730# for a long bed Super Crew (164.1" WB). I assume this is the same truck you are describing.

First, and this is MAJOR, Ford's payload spec is their MAXIMUM. That means an absolutely stripped truck (XL, gas engine, no options, etc.). For example my truck would have a maximum possible rating of 4,450#. By the time I add the diesel, 4x4, Lariat package, 5th wheel prep, etc my actual payload is down to 3,253#. Almost 1,200# difference. The diesel is ~800# difference by itself. See reply #42 above for my payload sticker. Almost every truck will be different depending on configurations and options.

To try and answer your question, per Ford's payload numbers for 2019 the payload difference (stripped) between a CC and a SC is 234# (6,984-6,750). So I would expect you would gain about that going from a CC to SC WITH THE SAME EXACT OPTIONS. So from my truck at 3,253 + 234 would give a SC ABOUT 3,500# payload. My best advice is to try and find the exact truck you are looking for (weight, trim, options) on a dealers lot and look at the weight sticker (driver door jamb).

I have no idea the weight difference of roto-flex vs goose box. My 20k#BW (fixed) companion hitch weighs #134 . For the goose box you will have to add a little for the gooseneck ball and chains (20#?).

Thanks Chris (CoChris)! So I will ignore the Ford brochure payload figures in deference to your real world experience. I am not sure of your exact model but from the B&W website:Product Weight: Part Number RVK3500. 20,000 lb GTW/5,000 lb VTW Product Weight: Base 131 lbs; Coupler 75 lbs= 206 pounds. Is my math wrong if I add the 234# (Going to Supercab in Lieu of CrewCab) and adding 206# (eliminating the Hitch weight): 234+206=440# of additional net payload?
