    2020 21BHE Coughing Issue

Anyone have any insight on what would cause a coughing issue? Seems to be stemming from the bathroom. Bathroom has a plasticy smell but nothing that unusual.....

    What are you talking about?

A “coughing” sound or actually making you cough?

I think that would be impossible for us to determine

My son uses “axe” products and that makes my wife cough

Something is causing everyone in the family to cough. It’s not any products like you mentioned. Hoping it’s not a formaldehyde issue. Is that a problem with Grand Design??

There are all sorts of outgassing within the materials of construction of RVs (and homes for that matter). Multiple types of adhesives are used, wood finishes, and plenty of synthetic materials. It is odd that an entire family is affected because such sensitivities are not hereditary. Further odd is the one location - bathroom. Because of that, and it seems you have had the rig awhile, I would first look at the treatment you are using for the black tank. Then I would like at the air gap under the vanity for proper operation. Then I would look at your cleaning products and toiletries. Finally, what bath fan is in your rig? Burning electrical components are a common throat irritant.

We bought the trailer used. Have only had it for a few months. It’s happened the few times we have used it. Seems like it’s caused when the bathroom is closed up for a period of time. I’m going to do a deep clean on it when we get back home. Will also look into something that might absorb fumes.

Granular activated carbon is what you are after. I would do a deep tank cleaning because some tank treatments are incredibly harsh and could be the issue. Put a cover on the bath fan so it can stay open to help vent.
