Here's what it looks like with the microwave/convection unit down....and notice that I have an outside vent on mine.....

And here is what it looks like with the heat shield installed. Ignore the wall surface below the microwave. We took the backsplash out and are putting a different one up after the microwave is reinstalled...

We have a 2017 Reflection with microwave/convection, no outside vent. We've not received any recall notice.

A couple of possibilities come to mind here. 1. If you are not the original owner, they may not have you in their file in order to send you the notice. 2. The microwave/convection in your trailer may be a smaller (lower power unit) than the ones affected by the recall. I really do not know if there are smaller units that the ones affected by the recall, but thought I'd throw that out there as a possible reason. Personally, I would call G.D. customer service and give them the VIN number for your trailer and let them look it up and see if it qualifies under this recall. I was kind of surprised that mine did, since it does have the outside vent, but I think that what was/is happening is that some folks just don't realize that the outside vent should always be unlatched and ready to vent to the outside if/when they are using the convection part of the unit. I've read several times on F.B. pages of folks that didn't even know they had an outside vent, so obviously they weren't opening it when using the convection part and were getting some serious discolorization of the wall surface behind the unit.

The recall didn't effect all trailers. One's that have an outside vent don't have a problem. Best thing to do though would be to call GD and they would tell you if your trailer is under the recall or not. Have your vin# ready though as they will need that to answer any questions.

I'm not sure what criteria they use for sending out letters to owners, we have an outside vent and received a letter, we haven't done anything about it yet. The wife suggested to me that we just see if GD will send us the heat shield so we can install it, or call our purchase dealer and try to get the shield from them.

That's obviously what I did.....called Customer Service, gave my VIN number and they sent it to my house and I installed it....pictures above ^^^^^. I called on a Friday morning and it was at my house the following Tuesday.....pretty darn good service if you ask me!

I'm not sure that is correct. Ours has an outside vent and we still got the letter and they sent me a heat shield, which I installed myself. The hardest thing about the entire job was lifting the unit off and lifting it back up. I cut some pieces of wood to hold the weight of the unit while I took the screws out of the overhead cabinet, then my neighbor and I lifted it out and set it down. Peel and stick on the new heat shield and set it back up in place, using the wood to support it till I got the screws back in. It's about a 15 minute job.

We are the original owners, the rig went direct from the factory to an RV show locally and we bought it at the show. No outside vent. I can't tell you the power level of the unit, as the paperwork is in the rig.

I'm not sure we'll call. I've only used the convection part twice and I'm not planning on ever using it again. I don't know how to use a convection oven, and we have an actual oven that I do use.

I understand. We've not used the convection part of ours yet, but my wife says she wants to learn to try and use it. Only one other thought here.....and I don't know if you plan to keep the trailer long term, but maybe just have it done in case you ever sell the trailer. The new owner might really find them to be useful.....again, just a thought.

Well, I gave the convection part a try. Neither time was it successful. I'm happy just to have an oven. In fact, when we picked out the rig we were going to buy, there was just a microwave in there, with a large cabinet next to it. That's one reason we picked that model. By the time we got around to actually buying it, they had replaced the microwave with the combo unit, reducing the size of the cabinet next to it. I wasn't happy.

We bought our rig with the eye of keeping it AT LEAST 10 years. I'm not sure how many people are interested in purchasing older RVs when they are looking, so that may (or may not) be important.

Of course, my husband, handy-man that he is, has already said that he can just fashion an insulating product to put back there, if necessary. I'm figuring once the microwave/convection oven dies (as I fully expect it to), we can just add it when we replace it (with a microwave). Gotta get that large cabinet back.......
