Check out "Swing Case Truck Tool Box"
It fits in the area behind wheel wells (below covers) and swings for access at the tail gate. I've had mine for over 10 years, they work great.

We have a Weatherguard low profile crossed tool box paired with an Xtang Solid Fold 2.0 Toolbox tonneau cover. It works well, but the tonneau cover needs to be removed for towing.

Once installed I drilled a couple 1/8th inch pilot holes on each end of the side rails and installed small bolts so that I can remove the cover and rails if I want to haul a bunch of stuff and don't want them in the way. To re-install I just put the rails back in place using the pilot holes and then clamp it. I will attempt to post a picture...[ATTACH=CONFIG]49597

I have been contemplating that tool box. It seems that the opening on the top is somewhat narrow. Thoughts after using it?

We fulltimed it for 7 years. We have a Chev 3500 long bed and has a Retrax aluminum roll up tonneau cover that fit the bill perfectly. We had three plastic bins with locking lids that we stored in front of the hitch and I stored all my tools in them. I could extend the tonneau over the bins in front of the hitch while towing and completely secure the contents if the bed when weren’t towing. The tonneau can be locked anywhere along it’s path. I highly recommend this set up.

Not sure if you have a long or short box - I have an F450 long box and have a Retrax cover that retracts into a box below the rails. Love the cover. I added a tool box that fits up against it and slightly under it yet the lid has all the clearance it needs plus doesn’t interfere with my B&W Companion. Love the setup. Can’t recall the tool box model but can find it if you wish. Can also get you photos if you wish. Won’t work with a short box though FYI.

I went thru this last year and found THIS cover to be my ideal setup. Its the "Work Cover JR" from TruckCovers. Its not cheap, at all, but well worth it for me. I had the different folding covers (Bakflip) the rollup and others. I have an F350 and the bed rail height puts that BAKflip cover up high. Its no issue folding the rear-most panel, but when you get closer to cab, the combined weight at the F350 height, was bound to get my shoulder messed up. I also had rails with ladder rack that I used to carry our kayaks. Finding any cover that would not hit (when opening) the rear rack was a challenge. The WorkCover JR is a slider so no longer an issue. I also got the Work Cover JR with rails included. These rails are compatible with any Yakima rack. If you have a long bed, you can get the Work Cover (not the JR) and its wider and has remote to toggle lock and a light inside.
