I was told that I had 60gal fresh water

I was told that my 2021 297rsts has a 60gal fresh water tank
But I was only able to get 45gals in before the overflow started running water
Is there a fix to this
    Help Help

They count the amount that is held in the water heatee tank as part of the total fresh water capacity.

The tank might be 60gal but it all depends how deep they inserted that overflow tube. There's a few mods that members have done to reduce water loss by installing a valve at HD end. If you do a search on here you should find along with some photos. I also read somewhere that the total capacity might include the hw tank. However I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I know on my 315rlts they say 60 gal capacity, but the tank is only 54. They include the hwh tank

Sadly, this is the industry standard. It is B.S, as that water is not usable. But all manufacturers state it that way in the specs.

If I had a trailer with the new Furrion tankless heater for fun I would be holding GD to the fire on their specs. I am sure they are still using the same fresh capacity figure
Maybe if people did this they would more accurately post capacities

I never boondock but I assume 6 gallons could be an extra day or so of water

They would just tell you that there are 6 gallons of water in the water lines at any given time. (unless they are empty or blown out, of course)

The overflow tube is not inserted into the tank. It is welded to the side at the top. As the overflow pipe is 3/4" you start to see water when the tank still has one inch to fill. That one inch over the area of the tank can add up to a lot of water. I fill until I get a good solid overflow. However when filling , when I see overflow, I cut back on the fill rate to not pressurize the tank. I also use a flow meter. I stop filling, wait a minute then close off the overflow valve. I have built in a vent system so not to get water loss while traveling. I posted here on what I did.
