Towing and capacities HELP
i have a 2003 2500 Chevy Duramax. sticker on door is gone. online says towing capacity is 12000
my manual book says max trailer weight is 15,400, GCWR = 22,000 lb
my new GD momentum tow hauler UVW is 13600. ( i guess this is actual weight? i dont know)
this is so confusing to me. I hate to admit my ignorance but i dont get it and i dont know if my 2500 can tow this 5th wheel

UVW is empty weight. No batteries, no propane, nothing. You didn't mention which model you have but I found a Momentum 349M with a UVW of 13,600. If that is the model you have, the GVWR is 17,000 which means the pin weight will likely be around 3,500lbs and could easily be more if you have a washer/dryer/generator. BTW, if you purchased your RV new, you should have received a weight sheet with all the paperwork and warranty junk you received in the folder Grand Design provides. That weight sheet will show the empty weight of your particular RV as it left the factory.
When it comes to towing 5th wheels, the number you need to pay attention to is payload, not "towing capacity". This is usually the first number that is exceeded when towing 5th wheels. I'm guessing the payload rating of your truck is in the low 2,000lb range.
If you take the estimated 3,500lb pin weight and add the weight your hitch (200lbs?), passengers (200lbs?) and anything else in your truck (firewood, coolers, tools, pets, etc), you will far exceed the payload rating of your truck.
The Momentum 349M is F-350 dually territory.Brian & Kellie

thank you. That is so very helpful. I think ill look for a 1 ton. do you really think a dually is necessary? a 1 ton diesel has a payload of 4480 # that should work shouldnt it. Id prefer not to have a dually.

What model FW do you have? Also, what are the specifics for your truck? Crew cab, long bed, etc.
