    Non-Functional Water Heater

Third time out, the water heater dies. Does not work on either gas or electric. Both switches light up at the panel, but no hot water. I have checked propane, checked behind the switches, checked the fuses (both 12v and breakers), checked the fuse on the WH circuit board.

I decided it must be the circuit board since it would not work for either gas or electric. I ordered a new board (can not face going to the dealer....) just installed it. No dice.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Is the water not even getting lukewarm? Can you hear the gas come on or the igniter clicking when in propane mode?

Have you manually released water through the relief valve to ensure it isnt a flow issue? If hot water comes out of the relief valve, it could be a bad check valve.

There is no clicking of the igniter. I tried the relief valve, water did come through. The water is not even luke warm. Just completely dead - neither gas nor electric works, but as I say, both lights on the switches (gas and electric) will illuminate.

Search online for the Dometic water heater troubleshooting guide. Could be a thermal cut off or bad board.

    Non-Functional Water Heater

Look for a thermal cutoff (thermal fuse). It looks like the one in this link: https://pantherrvproducts.com/dometi...y-cut-off-eco/

This blew on my buddies first trip out with his new rig.

You can test it with a volt meter (a bad one will have 12v across it) or remove(kill power first) it and check with an ohm meter (a good one should be 0 ohms)

If you need to replace the part, the temp is printed on the device. They have them on amazon.

The power of the GD Owners Forum shows through. This was the problem. $11.99 for three of them on Amazon. 1 minute to replace. Thanks much. This saved:

    1. 10 gallons of diesel to get to the dealer and back (220 lbs of carbon)
    2. 4 months minimum of my trailer on the dealer lot (1 month to diagnose, 1 month to get authorization for warranty work, 2 months to do the work).
    3. 2 more months waiting for my appointment time to arrive
    4. My trailer sitting uncovered in the dealer lot for 4 months.

    So. Thanks again.

We are having same problem although it works on propane but not electric. Dometic sent a new motherboard but it didn’t help. I’m confused by you saying a bad one would read 12 v. Isn’t the water heater a 12v? So what would a good one read? Also my husband hasn’t been able to pull that thingy you posted a link to out of the water heater. Any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging anything else? Thanks
