    You may be right, but the way I read the OP was that the axle was serviced a couple of times with no mention of change of brake assemblies. I was doubting that the new axle came with new brakes/hubs, but that the originals were used.

    So, point # 8, after the axle work, was the ONLY mention of a new brake assembly I saw noted. I may be wrong.

    I'm starting the think @jkwilson has a good point on the out of round hub.

    1 brake heating up?

    This is an excellent point. Check the hub and bearing.

    Also check brake wiring for potential shorts or bad connections that could be causing brakes to sporadically engage.
