Now that we've lived in this trailer for a couple of months we have a pretty good idea of water usage. I generally fill and dump in the same session, so all I really need for a level indicator is the fresh water tank. I could see it on the Foretravel, so I could fill to my mark. If I wondered how much was left I could go out and look.

Your fresh water indicator isn’t working well?

That's actually the only one that I believe. When we're filling, Jo Ann is watching the monitor and I'm at the faucet. When the light says "full" she tells me and starts a two-minute timer. When the two minutes are up I turn the water off and consider it full.

Why don’t you fill it until it pours out the overflow?

"Why don’t you fill it until it pours out the overflow?" Habit. We winter in the desert, so wasting water is a big issue. I'd rather have a gallon or two less than drain a quart onto the ground. Also, we are filling through a water softener.

I may try letting it fill to overflowing next time and see what happens.

There's a third option out there. Mopeka now makes a water tank version of their gas sensors. I've only seen one review, All About RVs tried it out. Less than ideal and less than $100 each! Not intended for black tanks.

I'm considering one for out Grey, that's what fills first.

I will second the use of the water meter for filling the fresh water tank. Some people have had problems with water siphoning out when fill to overflow and then travelling. By usin the water meter I also found out my 60 gallon holding tank will only hold 47 gallons before overflow. The meter is more accurate than the manufacturers paperwork. lol.
