@ardvark16 I’m right there with @ajg617 on pin weight. Last time I weighed I was 3250lb. That’s with dual panes, washer/dryer, QD8000 diesel genny up front. I’m probably about 3500lb now because I just finished an inverter and lithium batt install in some found-space behind what was the pass through wall.

Wow! I am so used to being well within my weights that I never even figured that shorter Solitude would be so heavy. I know I can tow any Reflection model they make with my truck but the Solitudes are almost all in the Dually range. The 310GK is so much beefier in every way than a Reflection and I like that. I’m not against a Reflection either, I have a 150 series that I chose only because of layout. All of this makes you look at being comfortably under weight vs. Solitude which would be closer to the limits. 3300 pin leaves me with almost 800lbs leftover to play with. That’s really plenty left even with a 150lb hitch. Close is enough for me though. I fully endorse at or below the numbers.

Yes, I understood that the 450DRW vs the 350 DRW does reduce the listed payload by about 1000 lbs due to beefier brakes and suspension and having the same 14,000 lb GVWR.

My thoughts was in choosing the Ford 450 vs the 350 that being at about 1,500 lbs under published payload was sufficiently “overly cautious” enough. Having the additional HD brakes and the significantly improved turning radius yet being well under EVERY weight limit was the trade-off for buying a 450DRW over the 350SRW.

Plus by being patient and ordering it with X-Plan, having to wait a year for it to get built I got to buy it $8,000 under sticker or 20, 000 under current local market value. It still makes me cringe that the truck costs 4X what my first house cost.

No storage behind the axles on the outside, and very little inside, really makes it add up on the pin. Carrying water in the tank is about the only counter balance.

I think it was initially about 2600lb before we started adding things like washer, dryer, Genny, etc. We made one trip with our gas 2500HD and it was right at payload, about 300lb under rear axle rating, and right at GCVWR. That was a big fail…not enough engine, not enough truck.

I think that is my one disappointment with the floor plan - no outer rear storage. I'm reluctant to put anything heavy in the cabinets above the rear sofa. I carry water (1/3) because we do dry camp while en route. But this next trip, the first 4 or 5 nights running are dry so I'll probably carry 2/3. The problem is the waste water has to go somewhere and those tanks aren't behind the axles. I might hit a CAT scale on the way just so I can see how much pin weight has changed as the water shifts.

I know it was touched on but not discussed, everyone seems caught up on the GVWR of the truck. In Texas you can register the truck for what you want but no matter what the truck is registered for or what the GVWR is you can not exceed the weight rating of your tires. In Texas a state trooper can pull you over anytime they think you are over weight, they will put you out of service whether you are commercial or private if you are over the weight rating of your tires or over the weight you are registered.

So, does that translate out to your trailer pin weight being 1400 lbs? If so, is that with the trailer loaded and ready to camp?

What you are saying in Texas the lady at the DMV that was a Walmart greeter the week before can over ride all the federal regulations in various FMVSS/CMVSS and increase your GVWR on your truck. Not quite that easy. According to FMVSS you have to submit and VCO to the manufacture of the vehicle requesting to change the GVWR/Payload of vehicle.
