    first blowout

1st day on summer trip - the tire monitor beeped, in the split second it took for me to take my eyes off what I was doing (I'm the navigator, not driver) and look to see what tire we heard a big "POP!" I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the curbside front tire was flat.

Fortunately, there was a turn in the road with a very wide shoulder right there. We pulled over and went to work changing the tire.

Back on the road, I looked ahead to the next "big" town to find a tire store. We're on a 3 month trip and we really don't want to be traveling with no spare. Besides the "regular" spare, we do have 2 unmounted tires if something were to happen in a place where we couldn't find the correct tires on hand.

Called a tire place and they had the tire, so we stopped and bought a new tire, put that on the rig and returned the spare to it's position.

Back on the road and only about 2 hour delay in trip.

If you want TT tires that are as reliable as your TVs tires..Ditch the ST tires and get LTs. From 1993 to 2006 I had more sets of Sts than I care to remember. None of them made it to their second birthday. In 2006, I made the jump to 16"rims and Michelin XPS RIBS. That ended my tire problems. I no longer needed to obsess over them. Just check the pressures a couple of times a year and go. Tires actually aged out instead of blowing out.(I actually sold my 5 year old Miclelins on Craigs list for 250.00 fast) no more repairs on the side of the road changing to the spare and makeshift repairs to the TT from the damage. It was an expensive swap, As I needed to go from 5 lug drums to 6 lugs to fit the 16" rims, but it was well worth it. Spend the money once, cry once. Try to cheap out, cry many times.
