I removed the board over the storage area and cut a new one that will support the std. queen mattress up to 1" from the edge.
We got the 8 inch mattress with springs. Like I said we're happy with the 3 year old one. It's held up well. I looked at all the different ones recommended here but decided to go with the one we're use to.

This is our second summer with our 2019 Reflection. The queen mattress was definitely a step up from previous trailers but we both started getting sore as we were sagging down to the plywood. Replaced it with a pillow top regular queen mattress. Going to have to adjust the headboard as it’s higher and will be a little tougher getting at the storage underneath but we sleep good

Apparently it's done this way on purpose. I have no idea why.

Yes, although 4" on each side seems excessive and unnecessary.

I just replaced mine with a short queen Comfort Zone® 10" Elite Mattress that I purchased at Camping World for ~$500. Fits fine. Much much better....

I know this thread calmed down a bit but wanted to share pics of my new mattress platform completed this morning. Used 1/2" plywood with 1x3 edging. Reused the gas struts and hinges. This is so much better. You can actually sit on the edge of the bed without sliding/falling off. I also pulled the mattress down from the front wall about 4-5 inches to give a little more headroom. Picture collage shows the before, after and after with mattress on platform.

Looks good! Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking when they put a queen mattress on the full-size base. We finally received our Zinus 8" queen foam mattress a couple days ago and put it in the camper. We have not slept on it yet, but already it's 100% better.

Glad you like the Zinus so far, been checking in on this thread to see if you liked it. I would have hated to recommend it and you didn't like it. I was sitting on ours today while doing some projects in the 5er and was wondering if yours had arrived.
