    Too much TT?

Hello Everyone. New to the forum and trying to figure out if the GD TT we're looking at is going to be too much for my TV/experience. We found a Reflection 300rbts and love the layout, GD build quality and the ability to have a seperate washer and dryer. I have a Ford F-150 crew cab/short bed (sorry about that), with the Ecoboost 3.5, HD Towing Package and the #7000 lb. frame. The door tag payload is 1836 lbs. and the towing capacity is, near as I can tell, #12 ,500 ish. After spending a couple hours on the forum, I would not be foolish enough to pull with anything other than a Pro-Pride P3, so factor that in. The 300rbts has a GVWR of just under #10K , which should put my actual hitch weight around #1300-#1400 lbs. My question is, "Am I shooting too high in picking a rig?"

I hope any guidance I receive is positive so I can become a more permanent member of the forum. Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the forum.

That's a heavy tongue weight. What's the tongue weight capacity marked on your truck's receiver? Some truck receivers are limited to 900lbs even though the payload is close to double that amount.

After rummaging through my Ford documentation, the max. tongue weight for my truck is listed at 1320 lbs., but all of the listed tongue weights in the ford documentation are simply 10% of the "max. trailer capacity".

The max tongue weight capacity would be stamped on the receiver itself. It's all based on what class of hitch is installed, which should also be marked somewhere on the hitch. Click image for larger version.

My 2 cents worth.......that trailer is to big for your truck. Its not just weights & towing capacity, to big or long of a trailer is like the tail wagging the dog.
I had a 30' trailer towing with a '16 Chevy 1500 extra cab and it was a nerve wracking white knuckle experience.
I put on LT tires, added a leaf to the rear springs, & Rancho adjustable shocks which helped some, but not good enough. Now maybe it would have been better with the Pro-pride hitch, but I didn't want to spend that much $ to only have it be the same. I felt that the truck just wasn't big enough for the trailer.
People keep telling me to follow my dreams...so I went back to bed

Nothing is actually stamped on the hitch. I have the Max Trailer Tow Package which "consists of a 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness, Class IV receiver hitch, 3.55 electronically locking rear differential, 36-gallon fuel tank, auxiliary transmission and engine oil coolers, an integrated trailer brake controller, and an upgraded front stabilizer bar." The sticker on the underside of the truck next to the hitch says the max. tongue weight is 1320 lbs. So, I guess..........maybe.........the 300rbts........might be OK?

That 1320 includes weight of whatever hitch you get as well. It will be close, and probably not an enjoyable ride as mentioned above. I had an F150 with a TT that had around 1000lb tongue weight, it was 36' and was an ok ride, not white knuckle, but once loaded with people and my toolbox I was overloaded according to the yellow sticker, but not the axle or tire ratings.

My trucks sticker. Just to be clear, the listed tongue weight on the 3000rbts that I'm looking at is 791 lbs. The 1300-1400 lbs that I'm quoting above is based on 13-14% of GVWR. A number that I've seen quite a bit on this forum.
