Looks to me like a kind of press-fit pin that has become un-pressed. It's been said several times that "it's not part of the valves" and nobody has challenged that so maybe I'm out to lunch. However my guess - and it's JUST a wild guess - is that it could be part of the flushing mechanism of the toilet or of a valve; something is supposed to rotate on the two ends of this thing, while something is NOT supposed to rotate on the center part of it that pushes the other something around. Like a lever pushing / pulling the pin to push something else that moves around on the pin.

If I win you can donate my prize money to the new-toilet / new-valve fund.

Looks like part of the toilet lid hinge. My hinge was coming apart and I had to knock this piece back into place with a hammer.

OK, OK ... Coax cable made in China March 2015, coax crimper was broken that day, during RV construction GD employee laid coax cable on pantry shelf, connection came lose and dropped into pantry shelf, rolled and dropped onto top of flour container, dropped into flour, got used in last batch of biscuits, biscuits eaten 24 hours later the rest is history !

I’m betting on the end of a Dial Indicator. Just curious what you were measuring or why in the toilet? This was my second warranty issue. Dealer couldn’t find why grey water valve wouldn’t seal. I found this in valve. Wall hole cutout.

@gkchristopher, don't keep us in suspense!

Did @Ricky Christopher get it right with his/her guess that the part is from the hinge of your toilet lid?

    Enquiring minds want to know!
