    Tankless hot water

We do a lot of boondocking camping. We have been considering removing the tankless system and go back to a normal hot water tank. Has anyone done this? My biggest concern is room for the tank. 2022 Reflection 297RSTS.

Welcome to the forum ! First , knowing what model and year GD you have would help in answers. There are plenty of boondockers here that should be able to advise.

Unless I'm missing something, the tankless water heater system is actually ideally suited for boondocking. I can't imagine what would be gained by swapping in a water tank?

For boondocking, the main advantage would be if you're going to camp in sub-freezing weather. The tankless water heaters being installed in the GDs don't handle freezing very well. There have also been a number of complaints on the forum about how long one has to run water to get hot water to the faucets. This would eat into fresh and waste water tank capacity.

That makes sense. I can attest to length of time it takes for water to hit the faucets.

Exactly our issue. We end up wasting a lot of water.

We use a collapsible bucket to collect the water while we're waiting for hot. Then we use that water to flush the toilet. Very little gets wasted and none into the grey tank.

We have a big concern about the freezing issue. About to pick up our new 297RSTS on Monday, and we did not know about the 39-degree limit on the Furrion tankless system. That's a concern, since we often camp in the low 30s and occastionally in the 20s. We are almost certainly going to have to change out the tankless heater for a normal one. Anyone know where we can find out more about this?

Tankless freezing problem - possible solution?

I've been reading all the posts about the freezing problem with the Furrion tankless water heater. I haven't picked up our new Reflection 297RSTS yet (two days to go!) but I'm already concerned about this issue. Has anyone ever tried using heater tape (plugged into 120v outlet) inside the water heater compartment to help alleviate the problem? Do any of you DIYers think this would work?Click image for larger version.

You won't have hot water when camping in freezing temps.
As confirmed boondocker, we see temps in the teens often. Below zero occasionally. A tankless heater is a non starter with me. I am glad I bought when I did. No more absorbtion fridges, and now no hot water..
