I tried without success, apparently replacement is arbitrary and capricious. My jacks at 4.5” clearance are above the line of departure. Actually last time I left a campground I got flagged down and toldd my rear jacks appear to be down, they weren't

Has anyone checked to see if a different model of self leveling will work or go back to old school and replace the self leveling Jacks with manual jacks?

There was a thread on here awhile back about this issue and the wrong jacks were installed on the guys 5th wheel. And I think Grand design replaced them with shorter ones. I'll see if I can find it.

    Well I couldn't find it.
In some other threads there was talk of removing the pads when traveling. And also talk about shorting the tubes that the pads attach to, by cutting of an inch or two.
I found on e trailers website that there is a short jack..it measures 21 !/2" collapsed.
I guess you need to see if you already have the short ones on there.

When my trailer was new, I raised the jacks up one notch (as high as it would go without hitting the floor above). I am at 6.5" from the ground. In 5 years, I have never bottomed out the jack but of course something like a pothole or dip would have to be navigated very slow. I am just saying that although it looks very low, it has worked ok. Also, when I moved the jacks, I also found a couple of loose bolts!

There has been a lot of discussion on this. Do a search on rear stabilizers.
There are two length jacks, 24 1/2" and 22 1/5". For some reason Lippert would not supply the shorter jacks for production.
I can't speak to the other model trailers, but on my 268BH the jacks were 5" from the ground and within the angle of departure. The tops of the jacks were already next to the floor and could not be raised. This is not the case on all trailers. I contacted Jerry McCarthy at GD on a Friday afternoon and the following Wed, two short jacks were sitting on my porch.
I have made this suggestion several times and will make it again... Contact this guy, not customer service. The CS people do not have the authority to resolve this. So, if you post back here that you called CS and were turned down, then that one is on you.. You were told.
I don't have a clue how they determine which jacks get replaced. Some of us have had great results getting new jacks, other's, not so much.

    Bob,
Thank you for the information. I will measure the jacks and try emailing Mr. McCarthy again. The first time the email was returned to me.

Besides having the dealer move my rear up on the 295 1 bolt hole, i'm just going to get in the habbit of pulling the pads off of the rear just to make sure.
