Yea.. sometimes when we camped recently with our 5er we have noticed several motorcycle or small car tent campers. I'm thinking it might be a good way to start enjoying the outdoor weekend camping experience we did when we started back in the 80's till this fuel thing is over. Either that or do monthly stays with the 5er. Hard to beat 40+ mpg when fuel prices go crazy.

We like our state campgrounds. I think they will fill up fast. We intend to take trips that are 200-300 miles each month. Our annual 1200 mile trip will be by air this year.

ha - I meant the fuel (joking, of course). But the truck will be traded in around the May timeframe. Assuming Ford doesn't slip the build date again (for the 4th or 5th time). grrrrrr.

People will probably end up limiting the distance they will travel for recreation. Who know, they might discover some very nice locations much closer to home that they never considered previously.

This gas price crisis might also make people think about where their next home move might be, especially if they are nearing retirement and looking for that final retirement residence. I did that when I retired. Moved from SoCal to middle Tennessee where the cost of living is much lower, the quality of life is much better and your surrounded by beautiful lands, lakes and rivers.

We changed our NY to Arizona trip in Sept (5000 miles) $3500 in gas to NY to Maine ( 1200 miles) $825 in gas.
Was doing all of Maine in 2024 looks like 2023 now. Arizona in 2024.
I can do a lot of stuff with that $2700 difference.

Sounds great! Good on ya' for your "hedge" Not that this is an investment thread, but do you think those stocks still have room to run? I've been thinking about something like TAGS to hedge against potential food price increases.

Just FYI, I rung the register (with trailing stops) on crude ETFs Tuesday. If I can be disciplined, I have a pretty healthy fuel budget for this year's vacations.

Fuel just drop 15 cents a liter here today. CAD I doubt that yhey will ever lower it back to what is was at. They've been waiting for any excuse to raise it up close to 2 dollars CAD per liter for a long time.

They could still have some room to run, but I’d hesitate to bet on them now. They are getting close to a double since last March. Probably better to watch for commodities to drop, then short these three as they go back down. That’s a little unnerving, but it can work on these ag stocks.
