    Tow vehicle power source

    Hi All,
    I am at the age where nothing is very easy for me. I had the dual batteries removed from our Reflection 318 RST last fall and now need to move her from our storage location. QUESTION: Will the tow vehicles 7 pin power source be enough to raise the front jacks? I can have our RV service put the batteries back in and hook them up but I need to get my truck hooked up and the FW hauled there. Basically I wonder if my TV will power the jacks without batteries connected in the FW? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you may have for my dilemma.

    It might. I've used the tow vehicle batteries to help raise the legs when the battery in the trailer was very low. But the pump can pull around 60-80 amps, so kind of a crap shoot. Be sure to keep the truck running, and it may work. I would be interested to know if it worked on it's own.

    Thanks Hoopy Frood, I will give it a try. I think the key may be to keep my fingers crossed?

    thanks for correcting my error. I am sorry that it happened. I guess I was just too anxious to "maybe" find an answer to my issue.

    @GRIZMAN -

    Here are a few forum tips:

    1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

    2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

    3) You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

    Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

    How far is it going to be towed? Without the battery in the trailer, if for some reason the trailer was to disconnect on the road, the emergency braking system will not work, it needs the trailer battery. If it was short, side road, and slow, I would not have a problem, but anymore than that, I would want the battery.

    If you were to put the battery back, you should only need a single one.

    Thanks for the reminder. My real issue is can I get the front jacks up so I can hook up to my truck? I only need to haul it a short distance and the majority of the distance is very rural (in the country) so I should be OK.

    If you have long enough jumper cables, maybe park another truck next to the trailer and use the jumper cables from that truck to the battery connectors on the trailer? If you were to do that, I would only use a bigger vehicle with a alternator/battery that puts out a good amount of power.

    OK folks that are wondering if a 2020 Duramax HD has enough power output to raise the jacks on a 318RST 5th wheeler, without any batteries connected, YES, it does. I just hooked up my 7 pin power cord and raised the jacks so that I could hitch my FW to my TV. Granted, the truck is a HD 3/4 ton GMC Denali, so it has good power making sources.
