At what mileage do people upgrade their TV?

We have a 2014 RAM 2500 Cummins and we are starting to think about upgrading to a new truck, but with the prices and availability we are wondering if we should just hang on to our current truck for a while longer. I'm wondering what is everyone's thoughts on what mileage to push a truck to?

IMO, age and mileage, within reason, have little to do with changing tow vehicles. It's more that they stop performing their role adequately. If they still do the job well, there are no serious mechanical difficulties, and you have confidence in them, why change anything? Of course that all goes out the window if it's just wanting something new.

Lots of different trailers over the years, and my truck, 2001 Dodge Cummins dually, still does an excellent job.

My TV is a 2013 f250 with 90K. Short of a catastrophic mechanical failure, it's going to be here for a long time. I can think of better things to spend $60-70K on.

I agree with Hoopy Frood, in thier assessment.

    We have a 2011 F-250 XLT, 6.7 CC with 119K.

Transmission, cooling system, brakes and engine performing well and always serviced at recommended intervals.

Recently replaced the stock Rancho shocks with Bilstien's and replaced the deteriorated Ford body mount bushings with S&B Filters body mounts. This improved the ride considerably and I would say better than new.

I am allergic to vehicle payments and with the cost of new vehicles, we are happy towing with our current tow vehicle. YMMV

I agree with all responses. I have 65K on my '13 F150 SCREW 6.2ltr (full time puller). I wouldn't consider upgrading it until it can no longer perform, I get a larger RV, the fuel becomes obsolete and/or extremely expensive, or I can no longer maintain it myself. Because I like it so much better compared to the newer gassers out there, I may even rebuild it, if required and needed for continued service.

IMHO, unless just wanting to upgrade for better bells and whistles, tow and carry capacity, looks, and/or just wanting to upgrade to a newer model for non-mechanical reasons, then going with what you know is always better than what you don't know with a new vehicle.

LOL. Yup. Although we won't be towing any longer, our '01 Ford Excursion, 7.3 Diesel, is still going strong. She's got 243000+ miles. Sounds like a Panzer coming down the road... loud, but still love that sound.

In the past, I've traded off all my vehicles by 80k miles, I sold my '99 F250 gasser at 80k miles. It was running good, just wanted to step up to a diesel. My '09 F250 was traded off at 50k as I was having fits with the DPF. Had it at two dealers couldn't fix it 'cause it showed no codes (they cleared on the way to each dealer) & they couldn't look down at the black exhaust.
I hope my current truck is my last one...as long as I can afford the extended warranty. I keep up with maintenance, have only changed out the stock shocks to Bilsteins. Change oil more than needed-oil is cheap insurance.
At 55k its been a reliable truck so far.
