I40 road conditions from Amarillo to Little Rock?

25-30 years ago I took I40 to get to Mississippi, but it was very rough with a lot of truck traffic. Now I cut south on 287 at Amarillo and bypass Dallas to get to I 20. The bypass around Dallas using 82 to cut east is now getting very congested.

So I was wondering if I40 has been improved over the years. I would head south out of Little Rock on I530 to 65 which appears to be improved from the old 2 lane to get to I20 near Vicksburg.

    Thanks

We tow I-40 from northwest Arkansas (MM 18) to Little Rock area several times each year We have had no problems in AR with the pavement condition or truck traffic. I cannot speak to the OK or TX.

I try to avoid the peak traffic time as LR and Conway area can be a bit congested.

Honestly, I -40 sucks. It's okay in some spots, rough in the majority of the others. This is for both Texas and Oklahoma.

No, it's not, but for the lower 48, it sucks.

Since we started full-timing, I've found that most interstate highways suck. States are now focusing on fixing bridges (which is a good thing) and meeting the roads go to pot. This just reafirms my thought that governments don't really understand budgeting.
