The OP here - not knowing the actual before and after weights of the stock mattress vs the one we replaced it with, I had to guess. 120# struts were easy to find on Amazon, but going there from 40 seemed to be way too much. Found some direct replacements on line at Camping World (who I try to avoid at all costs) that were rated for 80# and got those. Easy snap in replacement. Probably should have looked for 100#, but bed is still much easier to lift, although still not one handed.
Hmm..and now I hear about the actuator.....

I'll be posting a thread on my actuator soon. Gotta get the parts first!

What size did you end up using? A picture of this setup would be cool. And providing a link to which Amazon product you bought. What a great idea.

I might have to do that to mine too! But if anyone asks me the name brand of the actuator, I'm going to tell them I forgot but that it made me think of a subset of male flight attendants for some reason...

This apparently only has a 12" stroke. Meaning it will only lift the mattress platform 12", right? Hardly seems enough to be able to access much of the under-bed storage.

I believe you would mount it closer to the hinge than the foot of the bed so while the actuator only goes up 12" the foot of the bed would go up much more than that. Sort of what I found here ...

Hahahaha! Maybe I need to look at YouTube more often. I already engineered mine. The base of the actuator sits 7.25" from the hinge and 1.75" below the top of the rail. At full extension, that opens the bed 89% of the way.

I just need to buy the actuators and the remote!

    Here is what I'm purchasing:
Qty 2 of: DC HOUSE 12 Inch 12" High Speed 14mm/s Linear Actuator Motor 1000N DC12V with Mounting Brackets https://a.co/d/4tZikJJ
Qty 1 of: DC HOUSE Linear Actuator Controller DC8-30V with Wireless Remote Motor Control Switch Kit(Battery and Actuator not Include) https://a.co/d/6tjQZpJ
Qty 1 of: BNTECHGO 16 Gauge Flexible 2 Conductor Parallel Silicone Wire Spool Red Black High Resistant 200 deg C 600V for Single Color LED Strip Extension Cable Cord,model,25ft Stranded Copper Wire https://a.co/d/g5o7qL8
Qty 1 of Gebildet 5pcs 6x30mm AGC Fuse Holder Inline Screw Type with 16 AWG wire + 100pcs 6x30mm Fast-blow Glass Fuses Quick Blow Car Glass Tube Fuses Assorted Kit (0.5A 1A 2A 3A 4A 5A 6A 8A 10A 15A) https://a.co/d/gTdZSDu (because it's cheaper to buy the whole kit than to buy two full
6 amp fuses and 2 inline fuse holders)

I have the requisite Wago connectors, but for those that do not have them: WAGO 221 Lever Nuts 90pc Compact Splicing Wire Connector Assortment with Case. Includes (25x) 221-2401, (25x) 221-412, (25x) 221-413, (15x) 221-415 https://a.co/d/cTllpUX

OK, that makes sense. I didn't look at the specs that close and didn't realize it had enough torque to mount closer to the hinge. If you didn't need remote wireless control, wonder if the actuator controller is really needed. Looks like you could wire it with a DPDT switch and be fine.

I believe you can wire with a polarity reversing momentary switch. The question becomes, where do you mount it?
