50amp to 30amp to 15amp adapters and use questions

    Hello,
We just brought home our new to us 390rk. First time for us owning a 50amp rig. We are going full time with this unit. I have searched forum and not really found the answers to my questions. If I just missed it, or possibly not searching correctly feel free to correct me and/or some tips for search. I will not be offended.

I would like to get setup for the situations we may encounter on the road as far as power options. I already purchased the Hughes PWD50EPO (if anyone has other idea for this one, please tell).
So, pretty sure we need a 50amp to 30 amp adapter, a 30amp to 15 amp adapter (for when only a standard house outlet is available, like now in our current rental while we set up rig for travel). I understand the use limitations while using these adapters.
    My questions are:
    Which adapters are recommended?
Is it ok to use the Hughes unit in all situations? If so, I am guessing that may add to what adapters will be required.
Is it ok to use our 50 amp cord as an extension cord when connecting to a 15amp outlet with adapter, or go right to a 15amp extension cord (we have 50' 12/3 cord)?

I would say a 50-30 and a 50-15 or 30-15 would be required. I use a 50-15 directly on the 50A inlet and a much smaller cord when running 50.

You cord should be sized appropriately for the source outlet, which means for a 30A outlet either a 30A or 50A cord is fine but not a 15A cord

I would start at the rig, plugging in this way:

    50A cord into the Hughes
    Hughes into the 50A outlet

    50A cord into the Hughes
Hughes into 50 to 30 adapter
    Adapter into outlet

If you can find a 50 to 20 adapter, then if you have to use a 20A outlet you would just replace the 50 to 30 with the 50 to 20 adapter. If not, then add another line after Hughes into 50 to 30 adapter: 50 to 30 adapter into 30 to 20 adapter

Did you say 50' of 50A cord? I'd hate to lug that around...I went to 30A cord since I only have one AC and rarely plug in anyway.

Hopefully, he was referring to 50' of the extension cord, not the trailer power cord.

I believe one member referred to the cord as the "Anaconda", which is about right when are talking 30-50 feet of 50A cord... Its a beast for sure!!!

Yes, the 50' refers to the 12/3 extension cord. The 50amp cord is 25', still a beast though.

While all the above advice is good, I went one step further with a 30a extension cord that I use with my Portable Generator. I connect the 30 amp extension to the Generator, then to a 30a to 50a adapter, and then to the 50a camper cord. This allows me to get 30a service if I ever find myself far from the pedestal. Plus I have the 50 foot 20 amp Construction cord to reach even farther by using the 20a to 30a adapter. Additionally, I have a very robust Solar system so I can get by without being plugged in unless I need Air Conditioning for a fairly long period.
