When you park turn your tires sharply. Another thing you could do would be to have a kill switch installed.

Unfortunately there are long range RFID skimmers available so that the minute you remove the fob, it's read without having to be near the vehicle. Other tricks include jamming the frequency so that when you think you've locked the vehicle you really haven't or tossing a wireless relay transmitter near the vehicle. As @trailrydr mentions, some of the simplest deterrents are the most effective - even adding a non-factory theft decal to your bumper - anything that makes the vehicle less attractive or implies more work/time. One reason we have dogs in our house.
Anyone familiar with the Cross Bronx or Brooklyn Queens Expressways in NYC will understand how quickly a vehicle can be stripped to a bare frame. We were stuck in traffic on the Cross Bronx (middle lane fortunately) which is below street level and an older gent's car started to overheat. He pulled off onto the shoulder which also served as an entrance from the cross street behind and exit to the next street - both elevated. He had just started up the ramp when two vans pulled up to his car, 5 or 6 guys jumped out, and stripped it bare as we all watched. They passed the guy with his vehicle minus frame in the vans.
Catalytic converter theft is big here. So are thefts of trucks dropped off the night before for service. Even the dealerships are being hit.Last edited by ajg617; 03-16-2023 at 07:10 PM.

We are going through this in our area as well, current targets are Ram pickups and Toyota Highlanders. All of the tips in here are great and we follow them:
1. All key fobs go straight into faraday boxes when not being used.
2. VIN is covered with black cardboard
3. Install “The Club” on steering wheel when parked anywhere for more than a minute.
Right now it’s very quick and easy to use the key fob relay attack and they’re in and out of your driveway in minutes. Lots of footage on YouTube especially around my area. Anything you can do to slow them down or deter them to go next-door is worth your while.
One of my sales reps who lives near me, just went through this with his Toyota Highlander. Thankfully, lots of cameras on the front of the house so we got all the details. It’s ridiculously simple what they’re doing and I’m surprised someone has it done it earlier.
1. First person shows up and takes a picture of the Vin number through the windshield and leaves.
2. They come back about 40 minutes later with a door key cut. Door is open immediately.
3. They then plug a device into the OBDII port and within seconds, I have a new fob programmed.
4. Vehicle is then started and driven off.
In my companies sales reps case, he had just started using that old standby from the 1980s “The Club” and it saved his vehicle. When they came back with the key to open the door, they noticed the club through the window and decided not to bother. At least that night. They left and he hasn’t seen them back since though they do now have a key for his vehicle. He now has his Vin number obscured, but he said it was really hard to cover that one as there’s almost no gap between the windshield and the dash on the Toyota.
In talking with the police apparently there are lots of unscrupulous dealers around the world where they can just give the Vin and get the OEM Key number to cut their own. First thing they suggested was to cover the Vin number, it may be illegal in some parts, but the ticket is cheaper than a replacement vehicle and an insurance claim.
We plan to follow some of the other points in this thread, such as removing key relays if we plan to leave the vehicle for a long period or in strange places. Wheel locks are also another option anything to make your vehicle too much of a pain and have them go onto the next one.
Unfortunately, in both countries, our governments are so light on crime right now it’s ridiculous. If you search the web, you can actually find the vehicles appearing overseas in online ads still with the Ontario license plates right on the front. They simply steal them, put them in sea cans and ship them overseas.2022 Momentum 25G (aka "Baby Mo")

So, even with my old truck that uses a key for the ignition, knowing the VIN will provide a path for cutting a key?
