    Black Tank Valve Leaking

Anyone having issues with their black tank valve not closing all the way and every time I go to drain it and I open the cover i have to dodge waste water and poop!! I have had it in twice now and still not working correctly. I don't like where the valve levers are as they seem so flimsy. Has anyone added an electric valve at the end of the main drain pipe where you hook your hose to when emptying? Please let me know. Very disappointed.

A lot of people use these:

You attach this valve to the coach then you attach your sewer hose to this. It works well for me. And BTW, I only get a trickle of liquid. Of course, it can add up over time but you shouldn't be getting solids leaking past your main valve.

X2 on the Valterra valve. Totally solves the problem.

I have twist on valves on both of my discharges, no more surprises. I have a theory on this as well. I dont think the valve is leaking. I think that after the tank is dumped some fluid is left in the discharge line between the valve and the end where the cap goes, you install your cap and drive around so the fluid moves, pop off the cap and surprise. I could be wrong, but there doesnt appear to be a huge pitch on the discharge line, i think its possible. Either way a twist on valve will help greatly.

I installed valves (permanently) to the ends of both dump connections and it obviously solves the problem of surprises.

I agree with FT4NOW that what is happening is leftovers in the tubing due to long runs and not a lot of drop. If the primary valve was actually leaking I think there would be much more coming at you when you take of the cap.

I also use a twist on valve. In addition when we are parked, I use a clear plastic elbow with flush fitting and another twist on valve at its other end so I can see what's going on and backflush if necessry.

Being a cable operated system, there is a certain amount of flex. I have also found that if I just push the handle back in it will often leak but if I push it in hard and hold it for several seconds, it will seat properly and not leak. Give it a try.

I'm in a 350M full timing for over 2 years now. I've had a leaking gray valve for quite some time now and put one of those manual valves on the end of the pipe to keep everything from leaking out. The problem is, when both gray and black valves are open, the tanks are essentially connected together. If the valve at the end isn't open, your going to get gray water in the black and black water in the gray. I am considering installing an electric valve, at least on the gray side that's leaking. I suppose with a good rinse, it really isn't a big deal, however I'm more sensitive to all this since I have to run the black through a macerator. I like to use the gray water as a bit of a "pre-rinse" of the hose so I'm not dealing directly with black.

Has anyone installed or replaced either their black or gray valves on these units that have the belly all sealed up? How difficult is it to do?

I can't think of a scenario where both black and gray are open at the same time. Am I missing something?

My experience has been that the gray tank fills faster than the black. I like to drain some gray into the black when dumping to help the cleaning process.
I will close the gate valve at the drain connection, open the gray, then open the black. In an attempt to equalize the tank levels, gray having more content, the gray water will flow into the black. It's physics. I doubt they will "mingle" in the gray tank.

Like bad dog says, I open the gray after dumping black. That way it gives it a little "rinse".

I also see I resurrected an old thread. My bad. Still looking for anyone that has installed electric valves on either tank.
