That is a neat idea. Good work and thanks for sharing. I would imagine (sorry for the pun) too much weight in these though, would be hard on the slide devices when fully extended, without supporting the drawer from the floor.

Very nicely done! a little late but accuride makes locking slides. Bottom and side mounts (used to work for a cabinet supplier) ..availability is another thing though these days

This is great and thank you for sharing! I’ve been considering this same modification for my Reflection 290BH. Thanks for paving the way and providing a nice write up.

ID:	40751. Screwed two crates together (Home Depot), attached drawer liner on the bottom, removed the cross-brace and re-attached the door lower for a more even look…. And still haven’t figured out the picture rotation…🤔

Try a slight edit, a small crop or color adjustment usually works too keep the right orientation. It's a quirk of the forum

You nailed it. I considered using AccuRide slides for a long time but I couldn’t get the size I needed. Beyond availability, the shipping + duty costs would’ve killed me since I’m located outside the continental US.

Awesome job! We did the same thing for our 2400BH, but using the doors as drawer fronts. Makes the storage area so much more useable.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to source locking slides at the time, so I need to design another locking mechanism. In the meantime we just put some rubbermaid bins or duffle bags in front of the drawers during travel so that they don't slide out on their own.

Looks Great!!! I am considering doing this to my 2400BH. I am also considering taking the dinette our and putting in a couch instead. Love the way it turned out in yours though. You might have just made up my mind for me. Great Job!!!

I was inspired by @EsquireRV and did the same but took a little different approach. I wanted to utilize as much of the width of the bench as possible so I took the whole bench end off using finish carpentry crowbars. Used a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the staples so I could pound them back in with a hammer and remove them. The back portion of the bench is not accessible so I just pounded the staples back so they were out of the way where as the lower bench part was accessible to remove the staples.

Then I recreated the bench ends using oak boards held together with Kreg pocket screws. The lower two legs are more narrow then the original giving me the whole width of the bench storage.

... I then cut pine 2x4's to size to glue and screw into the inside walls of the bench storage areas giving me a higher/thicker wood base on both sides so I could screw the drawer slides to.

Then I had to figure out how to stain the wood to match as close as possible to the existing wood and color pattern. After doing multiple test on scrap wood I found that to hide the grain of the oak so it does not stand out as much as oak likes to, I used a putty knife and used oak wood filler and put a coat on all surfaces except the back which wouldn't be seen. I then sanded it to clean up the excess wood filler and stained it using Varathane (from Menards) by mixing ten tablespoons of Weathered Grey and 5 tablespoons of Aged Wheat which is a 2:1 mixture. I then used Clear Satin spar urethane (water based) to put 2 or 3 coats over the stain once the stain was dry. As you can see from the following two pictures that oak has a much wider grain then the pattern Grand Design chose but when you stand back, it all blends together and looks pretty good.

I created the boxes from 3/4" prefinished plywood using pocket screws again which allowed me to bring the floor of the box right to the bottom of the bench cavity yet slightly above the carpet. The outside width is around 17" and the inside width is around 15.5" The outside box height is 10". I used my little trim router to put a very small bull nose on the inside and outside rim of the box. The outside length of the box is 44" with an oak face as the end.

An issue that I ran into was that the bench is not perfectly rectangular so when the left box was inserted, the right side of the box protruded while the left side was flush. So I trimmed it very carefully so I would be able to attach the oak drawer face and for it to close flush with the bench end.
