Why I wouldn't is because they covered replacement of the black tank valve and cable, probably about $400.00. Also, we are 8 months past our 1 year warranty. What do you think? Others, please chime in. We have had GD send us parts for other items past the warranty, notably propane regulators and lines.
    Thanks for sharing.

I hope all the repairs last for a long time.

    Hey Steve,

Just reading back through this and I understand the internal failure of the Kantleak valve filling the fresh tank in all valve positions . . . but, why did the overflow from the fresh tank not drain the extra water ? Maybe it was frozen ? I'm just thinking through how to make sure this tank failure doesn't happen if the Kantleak valve pops a seal.

Rob--our overflow does not seem to scream "raging river".......could it be the water inflow volume exceeded the outflow capacity and then all heck breaks loose ?

Rob-replacing the kantleak cartridge today, the new one has 4 seat washers (guide shows 4 too), your guide has only 3.
Assuming that’s an update from when you did it?
    Thx

John, since this is a very old thread, you may want to pm Rob of Cate&Rob. Maybe this will also get it to him @Cate&Rob.

    Hi John,

This is a very old discussion . . . so, you are taxing my memory . I think we discovered that some brand new unused valve panels supplied by Kantleak to Grand Design (at the time) had only 3 seals in place. There are supposed to be four.

John - I think that picture from Rob references one of the four missing "o" rings which was a the problem. Attached picture of my new valve replace in 2015 with four "o"rings as s/b the case assuming this is what you are talking about. The picture does not show it but there were 2 "o" rings on the other side as well.

Thanks Dan, I saw mo difference in operation between the old one with 3 o rings and the replacement with 4.
Mine was getting extremely tough to operate and I planned on applying more grease and reinstalling it.
When I saw the 4 rings, I installed the new one and am keeping the old one as a spare.

I also forgot to drain the hot water tank and received a nice bath when I pulled the cartridge.

    Hi John & Dan,

Now that you describe this, I do recall this being the situation. Apparently the valve cartridge only uses 3 ports (the 4th one might be sealed off?) and thus Kantleak only installed seals where needed in production. For service, it "looks like" a seal is missing from the 4th location, so they build service parts with 4 seals.
