    New to Grand Design

Hi everybody. Just got out of the dealership and purchased a 2022 S-Class 3740BH.

We are new to Grand Design, but not new to RVing. Traded in a Rockwood Roo hybrid, and previous to that had a Jayco hybrid. Our first 5th wheel!

Also just ordered a new Chevy 3500 single with the Duramax with the 5th Wheel puck system. Now just have to get a hitch.

Got about 20% of MSRP, and talked the dealer up an additional $10k on the trade, but it took a few weeks of work and a lot of back and forth at the dealership. They really don't want to move on price much like the used to.

Anyway, looking forward to being here and looking around the forum to learn more about the Solitude brand.

Welcome! Not to be the brunt of bad news, but you should consider a change to that order , and make it a DRW 3500. The 3740 will probably have close to 3200lbs or so on the pin once loaded. I think it can be doable with a SRW, depending what the new truck's payload is, but it will be close once you account for the hitch and passengers. Congrats on the purchase, we love the 3740 floorplan although we dont have one.

    Thanks for the welcome!

The SRW has a payload of 4,223 which I understand includes a 150 pound driver.

Just checking my math and making sure I'm doing this correctly.

    4223
    -3200 (full load pin weight)

1,023 pounds left in the truck for additional load.

I originally looked at a 2500HD, but the payload requirement moved me to the 3500HD. I thought 1,000 additional pounds of cargo would leave me plenty of room. It's that an incorrect assumption?

If your payload is actually 4200lbs, then I think it will be fine. I havent looked at how Chevrolet lists their ratings. If that number is for you actual truck and not an advertised weight, probably nothing to worry about. Easiest way to check is look for a similar equipped version on a lot somewhere or ask someone that has one and see what the payload number is, unless Chevrolet gives you a rough idea when you make the order. I guess with SRW trucks having GVWRs in the 12k range, higher payloads are expected. Just make sure your tire ratings can handle whatever you load the truck with, best bet, hit the CAT scale.

    CAUTION!!
Your truck as ordered will not have a 4223 payload. That is for a base truck. Every option you add, will decrease that number. The sticker on your actual truck is what your payload will be.

Hi, welcome to the forum. If you haven’t done so already, I recommend you also check your truck GCWR.

Ill double check it. That is the list payload for a LT. We didn't get an optioned up version, one step up from the work truck.

Thanks. Ill double check that now...

    GCWR = 29,700

    Truck GVWR = 12,100
    3740BH GVWR = 16,800

Both fully loaded is about 28,900

About 800 pounds below the GCWR. Too close?

That’s good. As long as you don’t overload the truck nor the fifth wheel you should be fine.

I’m just a little ahead of you on timing. Make sure the payload number is for the diesel version. I had a SRW 3500HD duramax on order for a while, but ultimately switched it to an F450 dually (long story there). One reason is I want to put an aux diesel tank in the back with a genny.
