    Anybody camping Daytona 500

    We're looking to camp Daytona 500 - 2023.

Has anybody done that, insights, planning, spot preference?

We stayed a few years ago. There was a KOA not too for from the track and had a shuttle to and from track. Would do that again.

We just left there this morning. We camp in the Geico West lots, section D. No hookups, water station for getting water, pooper pumper if you need is $50, propane guy comes around and will refill your tanks but it's a big rip-off $51 dollars for a 30lb. tank, $7 a gallon! Cost was around $585 for 10 nights. There are areas with water and electricity but they are way more. Then there is also camping in the infield area but we've never done that. We run a Honda 2000 generator for keeping the battery charged, microwave, coffee maker, 13K AC unit, charging phones, and the wife's curling iron. I keep track of generator hours and fuel usage... this trip was a total of 122 running hrs and 11.5 gallons of fuel.

@IBEW Sparky - did you get to pick the site?
    Why section D?
When you get back, I'd like to pick your brain.

For those that have camped in the infield, how does that work? Are there assigned spots? I'm assuming that you have to be in by a certain day and once you are in you are in until the race is over? How much does such cost?

We picked our site for the 2020 race and renewed it for 2021, we didn't go in 2021 due to Covid and was allowed to roll everything over to 2022, our same site and our same reserved seats. We started going with friends that had been going for six years and got a site 3 spots from them. We're right across from the end of the airport runway and we like watching the planes land and take off, fighter jets, team planes, and even Air Force One in 2020.
Feel free to pick away, we're still on the road (FL Keys) and won't be back until late March...I'll answer when I can.
