    Slide storage when traveling

So I just watched a video and now I’m a little paranoid. Essentially, Josh the RV nerd, in this video talked about not overloading your slide when it’s in the closed position because of it possibly causing the floor to become detached. When we travel, we do store a fair amount of weight in water, soda etc. in the bench storage area.

Has anyone had any issues with this? When we stop for breaks, we generally don’t hang out in the trailer. Will we use the restroom or get food and eat outside so I’m concerned about the weight in the bench area with the RV bouncing down the road.

    https://youtu.be/itGeKF6yu1g

    Thanks

Think about it. In most of the bigger 5vers, the kitchen is in the slide, to include the reefer. That's a whole lot of weight in the slide.

I haven't watched the video, but to me it sounds like bunk. It might be the case, but in all three of the slides in our 320MKS, we carry a lot of weight.

Yeah I agree. But, still makes me pause and think because our slide on our 2800 BH only has a dinette and theater seat. And God knows RV manufacturers want to save every penny they can so I wonder if it’s less it reinforced.

Is it a Schwintek or rack and pinion slide? Grand Design does a pretty good job of engineering them.

I think there are several trailers that recommend against the use of the slide when it's closed. The slides with the refrigerator and stove are designed to carry the weight, the living room slides, not so much.

We have a Schwintek 11 feet slide with fridge, stove and lounge chair. We sometimes stay in places where we dont open the slide so I ask GD if we could sit in it (on it) when it's closed. They yes as long as it fully close or open not partially. When close or open, it's actually resting on the wall.

Rack and pinion slides have "stronger" support and are usually used for the heavier slides, so I wouldn't worry to much about it.

I've generally heard worse things from Schwintek slides than rack and pinon slides, so that's good.
