    Towing 2800BH with Tahoe 6.2L v8?

Does anyone here have experience towing the 2800BH with a Tahoe 6.2L v8?

We currently very comfortably tow an Airstream 25 foot and are potentially trading it in this week for the 2800BH. The Tahoe towing capacity is 8100 and the Airstream dry weight is 5500 vs. 6400 for the Grand Design 2800BH.

Wanting to do some due diligence here. Any insights appreciated!

    Thanks! ~Amy

Too big imo. Sorry. A 2400 BH like I have would be the max length I would suggest

2800s will have almost 1000 lbs of tongue weight

First off, welcome to the forum. Really the question isn't whether the Tahoe can pull the 2800BH, but rather can it tow it safely. The issue will probably be payload. The GVWR for the 2800BH is about 8,500 pounds. Figuring 15% for pin weight, that's over 1,200 #. Not sure which model you have, but the max for a Tahoe is about 1,900 #, that doesn't leave much for everything else you'd have in the truck.

Dry weights are meaningless. As @Soundsailor suggested, 12 - 15% of the trailer's GVWR should be used to estimate loaded tongue weight. Back when we had a travel trailer (800# less GVWR and 7' shorter than the 2800BH), we started out towing with a Tahoe. The motor and drivetrain weren't the problem... it was the tail wagging the dog when being passed by tractor trailers on the interstates - and that was with a good weight distributing hitch with anti-sway. It was my wife who encouraged me to trade for a 3/4-ton truck. The difference was like night and day.

There's a lot of good info in this thread in our reference library:

You can also get all the numbers for both the Tahoe and the trailer and plug them in here:

My 2022 2800bh has a loaded tongue weight of 1040 lbs. BUT, I also have the pro pride hitch so that adds about 130lbs or so. IMO I’d personally NEVER tow a 2800 BH with the Tahoe.

I am not familiar with the Tahoe but my guess is it would be a bad idea.

I am happy with my F150 and the 2800BH but I doubt it a lot of 1/2 tons would be ok with it, I have the LWB and max tow in a lower trim level.

We have a Tahoe Premiere with the max tow package. We went with the 2400BH, it is the max we wanted to tow.
2800 is just too long, and would max out your tow vehicle.
After 30 nights total camping in it. We do miss having a couch! We have 2 kids & 2 large dogs. I now want to trade it in for a 5th wheel, and get a real truck!

While the weight gang is right, your bigger issue with a standard wheelbase Tahoe is going to be wheelbase with that much length.
