I found the Pepwave admin software to be excellent. Very intuitive and easy to work with.

Okay, haven't worked with it yet. I'm old school so, if possible, I'll configured it by hand/manually.

The reason is that most of the MiFi hotspot devices use two channels at the same time to improve data performance, whereas the boosters are generally single-channel systems.

We have external MIMO antennas for our MiFi devices (the one for the AT&T device is below) and those help.

For most of our travels in the U.S. southeast these devices and antennas have given us good enough service to get by, usually MUCH better than just "good enough", but there have been a few exceptions in places with poor coverage. One was only about three miles from Port Charlotte FL - not all holes are in remote places - and we spent a month there so it was a real pain for us who are only semi-retired.

For that reason I'm eying other options (in case we're ever allowed to cross the border into the U.S. again! The system that @MoonShadow_1911 writes about above is collecting fans quickly.

    Good luck.
    What system is that?

Do you mount these outside the rig or use them inside by a window or something?

Read the posts by @MoonShadow_1911 in this thread, starting with post #6 .

If he's in a good mood, he may post a link to the YouTube video posted by one of those widely-watched professional traveler/advisor couples which describes the system and installation in great detail. I don't remember how I found it.

Links to the supplier that conveniently bundles the various pieces required are also in post #6 .

    Good luck.

The MIMO external antennas we've got are both equipped with short leads - the antenna is placed just a foot or two from the MiFi device.

The coverage of both MiFi devices we have is plenty strong enough to cover the living area of the trailer and of course the devices are battery-powered, so we can move the antenna and device to whatever window provides the best signal. It has usually, but not always, been enough to give us good service.

Theoretically it would be possible to add extension cables (two required) between the MiFi device and the antenna so you could mount the antenna in the clear outside and higher. However it would be critical that they be high-quality cables designed for cell's high frequencies with appropriate quality connectors on each end. With the 20-30 feet of cable you'd need, poor quality cables/connectors would quickly lose at LEAST the benefits of external mounting and quite possibly degrade performance below the performance without extension cables.

Here's a page from Amazon of possibilities but a quick glance at the first few raise concern about the low prices and the connectors. There may be other better ones there, and most likely elsewhere online.

However we have not bothered to do this. Most of the time we got what we needed without moving the antenna outside.

    Good luck.
