    Fuse size for Solar Controller

I just bought a 337RLS that came with the solar panel and controller. It is a 50-watt controller, FSCC60PW. The manual says not to connect the panel to the controller unless a battery is connected. The instructions show an optional fuse/circuit breaker between the panel and controller. I looked everywhere and cannot find one, so I assume Grand Design did not install one. I am wanting to install a fuse/disconnect switch in the line before it goes into the controller so I can remove the battery for winter storage. I cannot find any information on what size to use. The label says the max input amps is 50amps. I was planning on installing this switch/circuit breaker https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...DYWIS12M&psc=1. Does this look like it would be sufficient if someone in the future installs all four solar panels? Or does someone have a better idea?

    Thanks,
    Dale

    Fuse size for Solar Controller

    Hi Dale,

Much depends on the solar setup on the roof. My guess if that there factory setup like my pre wire is 10 awg which if good for 30 amps. I’ve would put a 30 amp fuse or dc circuit breaker between the panels and the controller.

If you provide more info on your setup, that may change things, but a factory setup 30 Amps DC.

It is a factory setup. This is the solar panel that is installed https://furrion.com/products/rooftop-solar-panel-150w. It can take up to four of these. This is the controller https://furrion.com/products/wall-mo...39486140285111. I don't plan on adding anymore panels, but I want to ensure that if I put an inline switch/fuse it can handle any future additions a new owner might do. In the owner's manual it calls for the PV wire size to be 12AWG for no more than 30 feet. I have no way of knowing what Grand Design actually installed but it says the 12AWG is for a PV short circuit current of 10amps. On the white label it has the max input amps rated at 50amps and the max output at 50amps.

    Thanks for the help,
    Dale

I would then recommend a 15 amp fuse or dc cb on the input side and 60 amp fuse or dc cb on the output side.

    Bill,
Thanks for the advice. I need to get on this so I can start getting the camper ready for its winter's nap.

Your welcome Dale. Personally I would go for the dc circuit breaker’s because they act as isolators and you can turn on and off each branch with a switch rather than wrenching on a live circuit.

Love to see pics when it’s all set up.

    Bill,
This is the switch/circuit breaker I was thinking of using but the smallest is 30amps. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...DYWIS12M&psc=1

    Hi Dale,

I got the 30 amp version of this…
    https://a.co/d/huzAnHW

This is a link to the 15 amp. I like this because both + and - go through the cb.

    Bill,
Funny you should mention both wires. I was looking at this one for the same reasons, this is the 25amp one https://www.amazon.com/Miniature-Cir...s%2C106&sr=8-3 It also comes in bigger and smaller sizes. My son highly recommends the DIN Rail system for this application since it is in a sealed compartment. I was just looking at the other one because it was sealed.
