Curious, does the 2016 Ford have a water separator located away from the filter?

I had a 2016 6.7L, from what I recall, the water separator was part of the first fuel filter assembly (the one under the truck). You could open the petcock valve on the bottom and drain any water out. I changed my filters every 10k miles, and never once saw water come out when I would drain the housing for a filter replacement. I ran Optilube for about 65k miles while I had the truck.

I was just looking that up... Ford calls it the "fuel conditioning module."

Same with my Dodge. Never found any water in the separator....so...do they work?

    Could be smoke and mirrors?

I read on the Powerstroke.org forum that you should empty them every month, but no one actually says that water comes out. Guess if you get fuel at a high volume place it's most likely not an issue since the fuel doesnt sit too long. I really dont know if these actually work though.

Sure did on my boy's '06 6.0L F-550 cab & chassis - it was a real shock to see significant water in the container. That was just last winter and he was plowing with it so it's not like the truck was sitting much - fueled up multiple times in a night of plowing and the light would come on. Odd though because we fuel up at the same location and my light has never come on and I do not use an emulsifier additive - demulsifier to separate.

It does and I usually pull a sample about monthly to see if there is water there. I asked the dealership mechanic why I didn't see a CEL for water. He said there was likely so much water that the sensors "couldn't handle it".

I'm going to do more research but I'm looking at this for some peace of mind.

When he was filling up one time was the tanker there filling the tanks. That can stir up anything that is at the bottom of the tanks to send it into your gas tank.

I thought most fuel station pumps had filters and separators on them.
When I worked at a Chevron station in college, I remember there was periodic maintenance on the pumps where they'd change the filters. That was gasoline, though.
