Are you talking about slide toppers or awnings mounted on the slides?

    In what regard?
Do they “recommend” them? I don’t think they do but many thousands are installed without issue

I don't think GD advocates for or against slide toppers. They offer them as a factory option on many of their units, though. We did not have them on our previous Reflection fifth wheel but ordered them on our Solitude. If you use the search function ("slide toppers" will probably work best), there are many threads on the topic. You'll find owners who are for and those who are against. I think it depends on your intended use of the RV and which parts of the country you will frequent.

I don't know about GD, you would have to call them and ask. We had ours installed by the dealer and have had them since day one. We like them. I can't speak to what it is like to not have them since they were on when we picked up our new trailer. As @Second Chance stated it depends on your use, location, and what advantage/disadvantage the toppers may provide.

The important question is what does @ChucksRV think about tip out awnings (slide toppers)? Answer that question and the members can provide some useful feedback.

we have had slide toppers on the last four trailers we had. will always use them. for us, it helps keep leaves, pine needles, misc debris, snow etc. off the slide out top. in the heat, it also gives an extra layer of shade. anyhow, we like em and will keep using them. the only issue that we have had was where the manufacture installed the connection rail on the trailer, one of them could have been a little higher, but worked out ok.

We had slide toppers on my previous Jayco Eagle but our new GD did not come with them installed. I have very mixed feelings with them. Yes, they keep the top of the slide clean and possibly help with temperature but the negatives overwhelm me. I rarely park under trees but I frequently visit the Outer Banks where it is very windy, sometimes 50 mph gusts. I have had the seams blown out on all of my toppers. I tried pool noodles tied to the slide to prevent flapping but only had marginal results. The flapping noise keeps us awake at night and scares my dogs. They are like adding sails to your rig and can rock the boat. The only real solution is to bring the slides in.

I bought a small cordless blower and don't find it a problem to blow off the slides of my new rig. To each their own but I won't have them again.
