Loose Spare Tire
Hi fellow GDers
I searched the forum and could not find anything specific on this topic. I was under my Momentum this weekend (fixing a couple places where critters could get in) and noticed my spare was hanging loose with quite a bit of play. A good couple inches since the underbelly in quite a bit of play from the frame in the center of the trailer. Anyone know if this is normal or should I cinch it up tight against the underbelly?

It should be tight up against the underbelly (there are frame members above the Coroplast for it to pull up against). Any play will result it motion while under way and could cause damage.

Thanks Rob!
I cinch it up tight. I figured as much. Just another thing the service department haphazardly did I guess. No reason for it to come loose after just 2 trips. It was a little tough aligning the wrench through the slide hole in the dark..I am really not a fan of Daylight Savings That's another thread for another time.
Thanks again.

Even thou you cinched it up tight keep an eye on it. I had the dealer put two new winches on under warranty because are spare kept coming loose while traveling even after tightening.

Like a lot of things on RV's the spare tire assembly is not the best in the world. In my SOB I played the cinch up game for a couple of years,
then one day I went out to re-tighten it and the whole assembly was gone, including the spare...
So I would definitely cinch it up and then be studying the problem a little more in depth. The addition of a locking brace that is not dependent on the winch is advisable.Dallas
