Is your rig parked covered or full sun? Where in the country are you? Climate plays a huge role in sealant life. It really comes down to when it starts showing gaps. For us in full Florida sun year round, a couple years was all we got.

I noticed on the Alliance RV site that they tout their choice of a polymer sealant, claiming it is better than silicon. For one thing it adheres to itself if you need to reapply a section. This is what they reference.

I live in FL and am lucky in that when not using the rig it is in an air conditioned garage. For sure it takes a lot of wear and tear off the rig. We're traveling now for about 5 or 6 months - carrying a tube of silicone, Lexel and some Alpha sealants for the roof (oh - and the every-ready Eternabond tape ).

Here's another trick for getting that silicone off: Take a razor blade (one of the ones with the rigid back), hold it against the windshield (not side windows) of your ride at a very acute angle (like 20 degrees) and make three or four broadsided cutting motions. This removes burrs from that lower side so you can now use it to SLOWLY ride underneath the silicone. Still, you don't want to use a lot of downward pressure that could cut into the fiberglass.
