Thanks! I bought a drone specifically to try and get that shot. It's one of the views from our favorite camping spot.

Very nice shot! What did you shoot this with? I've been a professional photographer for over 50 years and I'm very impressed with some of the travel shots on this blog. Especially with folks that don't really know what they're doing and don't take that statement wrong. Technology is an ever changing component of photography and you ether get on board with that, or get left behind.

Keep shooting and see where it takes you. I've seen professionals that run the gambit from over the top technical expertise to those that say "if it looks cool, shoot it! I tend to agree with the latter.

I didn't shoot the sea of clouds, Terry H did.
But when I shoot it's either throught my 4 yr old phone which has a pro settings that lets me manage the settings and I also use a no brainer older Canon Powershot sx50 that has a great zoom capability . I had an old 35mm Minolta for years. Growing up we had a professional photographer in the family that did get some published in National Geographic magazine who always encouraged and coached me a little bit.

Just a photography story... when I was still working (it's been a while, now) I used to shoot weddings and events on the side. Not counting the backdrops, lights/stands/reflectors, power packs, and all the associated stuff, my backpack with bodies, lenses, camera-mounted flashes, etc, weighed about 40 lbs. (two full-frame DSLRs and all the trimmings - the medium format film camera was in a separate case). During "The Purge," all the studio stuff was sold and I carried the backpack around our first few years of full-timing. I found that I didn't take any of that gear on hikes, etc., because of the weight. That stuff went into storage and I bought a "professional" point-and-shoot (Canon G7X). It takes great photos but it mostly stays in my every day backpack now since my Galaxy S10 takes such great photos and is always with me. The famous marine photographer Peter Barlow was once asked by someone what the best camera was... his response was, "The best camera is the one you have with you when you need it." He always kept an old 35mm half-frame under the seat of his car just in case.

We're going down to South Carolina next week to clear out our storage unit, get rid of a bunch of stuff, and bring just what will fit in a U-Haul trailer back up to a smaller storage unit in Aberdeen. I guess it's about time to do something with that 40 lb. backpack - probably list the stuff and sell it off.

Hiking the phone is usually it (a note 10+} then something comes along and that nagging, should have broght the camera thought creeps in. The powershot is not much smaller than the old Minolta but it is lighter. I made a strap by combining 2 different straps. One had a great padded area for the shoulder the other attached easier so when it goes no back pack needed no changing lenses and the 1200 mm zoom capability is great. Add a monopod that can double as a hiking staff and it's not so bad!
