A WDH can be viewed as levers that are attached to the rear of tow vehicle and lifted up, than secured to the tongue of the trailer. It redistributes the force back to the trailer tongue, but does not change the weight exerted on the axles. I verified this with my trailer, the weight on the axles remains consistent with the WDH connected or unconnected.
I would take your statement one step further. The levers in a weight distributing hitch add a moment (rotational force) to the the truck side of the hitch point. This tends to reduce the weight on the rear axle of the truck. That weight is then distributed between the steer axle and the trailer axle(s).

Your scale weights may no show it, but the mechanics say that trailer axle weight will increase with a weight distributing hitch.

It will show. When I weighed my tt with and without weight distribution, it showed a nearly 400lb transfer from the rear axle to the tt and steer axle, and I was still 800lbs below the tt axle limit.

    315rlts GVWR = 10995
    315rlts actual weight = 11095 (overweight by 100blbs)
    315rlts GAWR = 5200 X 2 =10400
    315rlts actual axle weight = 9560 ÷2 = 4780

Overweight issue has been corrected, carry less water, solved the problem straight away.

Consider yourself lucky. My 2018 2800BH has 2 - 3500# axles. One of them bent when we hit some rough interstate in Nebraska at 65mph.

    That stinks!

Were you able to get Grand Design to replace them under warranty?

I was 4 months out of warranty. GD wouldn’t help.
The axle replacement was about $850.

I wonder if axle problems on some of these trailers is related to the lack of an additional margin for weight capacity. As a object travels the weight or force exerted increases. I recall this during a rope class where a 150 pound person falls three feet the force of weight generated is somewhere around 300 pounds if I recall correctly. Granted the axle is only moving somewhere around 6-8 inches but it would interesting to know what kind of forces are generated during this movement.

I wonder if my weight distribution hitch is not generating the same amount of leverage as was mentioned. We have the same 315RLTS trailer with double pane windows, slide toppers, washer/dryer combo and all our stuff with full propane tanks we are at 9995 pounds, with no difference in weight on the axles with or without weight distribution connected. I have a Blue-ox setup and don't adjust the bars very tight, so that would be a contributing factor.
