Help! I need to cover a hole in the wall

Planing on installing a BMV 712 and removing a Go Power PWM-30 from the wall for a place to put it. I am replacing the PWM with a MPPT solar controller

The hole left by the controller is 4.25" by 7.48" 108mm by 190mm for our northern friends. Now to go back in the hole I am mounting the BMV 712. Its 2" in diameter. It came with an optional cover plate that 2.58" square. So I need something strong enough to hold the BMV unit

I had thought about black plexiglass, but you can see through it. Maybe paint the back. However I have never worked with the stuff nor do I know where to get it. Steel or aluminum plate? I know you folks have been down the road before so any help is appreciated. Is there a source out there that can make the plates up with the hole in it?

The controller I am removing and where the plate would go is on the back wall by the stairs.

    Thanks for any help

Easiest thing might be to use a piece of wood and try to match the stain, or go the other way and have a good contrast. Use a router on the edges and make it look more decorative and then mount the controller.

By the way, I think your ceiling speakers are a little loose [emoji6]

If that route is taken would it make it easier on the eyes ( but not easier to cut out) to have that wood or what ever is used be a backdrop for that whole cluster of things on that wall ? It would make the area look more like it was meant to be that way instead of a patch.

LOL Yep that was another story. I was tracing down and open feed to one of the speakers that was not working. Found two cross linked taps in the belly where the wiring goes out to the slide. I posted about the mess. Its the only picture I had for where the controller was.

    Thanks for the idea.

Keith - I too like the idea of fashioning a piece of wood which matches the inside color/look/etc. Seems I recall posts over the years where folks have taken this approach and the end result turned out very nice.

@FT4NOW - Keith is always modding something but you are right those swinging speakers (while at nearly ear level for better sound) are a little dangerously loose needing attention.

I put our BMV 712 monitor in by the batteries with a homemade mount. I use the bluetooth app on an old cell phone to see what's happening.

    Screen shot.

The homemade mount is a nuts/ bolt bin. KEN

I would get a thin piece of aluminum plate that was big enough to cover the hole and powder coat it black to match your fridge. Use it as a face plate to mount your new BMV 712. Four small black button head bolts to secure to the wall, done.
    That's a 50,000 foot view.

I got lucky yesterday. Local steel fabricater had some 16 gauge aluminum scrap. He made a plate up for $15 with 2" center and 1/8" mounting holes in the corner. I am going to get it powder coated for $25. Prices I was getting back off the internet and trophy places were over $100.

    Thanks for the help
