When I had a FW I used a traffic cone strapped it upside down with bungees so the grandkids did not whack there heads.

Use a couple of strips of ribbon, clothes pin them to the hitch so they hang down a foot so you can see them even when bent over moving around under there.

I do keep my motorcycle helmet on when I park the bike under the front of the 5'er. I even put it on before I go back under there to get back on the bike.

Note that this is the black rubber type and not the poly foam grey type. I selected this one becuase it was black in color and less noticeable when in place on the pinbox.
I wrapped it around the entire lower edge of the pinbox - not just the pin itself. I cut the foam around the breakaway box and used about a dozen pieces of 1" x 1" 2 sided velcro to hold it in place.

And even when people notice, I get to tell them how one camping trip departure got delayed 4 hours while i was in the emergency room!

I'd take a pic but camper is in storage for winter.
Sorry your injury from the pinbox was so bad. I have long hair, so it stopped bleeding quicker. It still hurts and there is still a lump.

I like your idea to pad it. It seems; I go under there quite often, so protection seems like a better idea instead of flagging it or putting another obstacle there.

For those with smart as--- remarks; I hope you don't have bad karma and wack your head. KEN

I just wacked mine yesterday on a machine here at work. Just high enough of a swing arm (for cabling) to put a nice crease down the middle of my bald head. It's a Wilson tradition to wack one's head when working (thanks, Dad) so no bad karma required.

Also, get a hard hat. DW makes me wear one when we set up. Down side is, folks don't know me without a band aid on my poor 'ol completely bald head.

I still have my hard hat from my logging days.
I remember conking my head (with the hard hat on) on the counter-weight of the loader (5 tons) years ago. It put me to the ground with stars.

It's a good idea, but I know I would forget to put it on and bump my head again. KEN

I have seen foam covers for the end of the 5er hitch, which also covers the king pin also. They were at a RV dealer, and they had their name stamped on them. I think they were about $60.00. I will see if I can find a link to them, and post it.
