My fridge wire.

they said right away that it definitely was a reinstall mistake. The baffles/insulation got pushed away,

Can you please share any more details on this? We’re scheduled to take ours in end of May and it’d be great to know what to look for after it’s put back together. We’re going to be en-route so it’ll be difficult to get back to this dealer if there’s an issue. Thanks!

I would be interested as well. I pulled my fridge and did not have to move anything like a baffle and insulation. Well actually I did have to put insulation back over the wire, but that was all. The only baffle on mine is at the top, which would not need removed to fix the wire.

Nothing noticeable visually but I noticed that the fridge wasn’t as cold. Ice cream wasn’t hard. Last year we could keep ice cream hard even during hot weather. I put a thermometer in the freezer….it never got colder than -6°C. Normally it’s around -16°C.

I’m not sure what these knuckleheads did, but the customer support person that I spoke with at grand design immediately said that it was a problem with the baffles and insulation.

One other thing; the wall to the left of the fridge, right beside the stove, got extremely warm. Almost too warm to touch. We have the Norcold 1210 fridge.

So here’s the latest; I was shocked to see this when I opened up the upper access panel to the fridge outside. It is completely blocked off, so no ventilation happening whatsoever. It’s no wonder the fridge shut down. The people at grand design and the dealer that did the recall are both on board, they said to get a mobile to repair it, and they will reimburse me. But the question remains; does the fridge still work after a major overheat?

I certainly hope it does, and if not they (dealer and or Grand Design) are on the hook for it. I would guess it probably does, but who knows for sure. Where the heck did it come from anyway? Overtop of the fridge?

So maybe the takeaway here is we should all take a bunch of pictures of our fridge compartment BEFORE we turn it over to the service folks.

This is definitely not good . This is an example of two different shields that were meant to be used by themselves not together.

I have the wood baffle and the top condenser is open to vent. I would take the top one out (or have the dealer do it under warranty).

This is what mine looks like…no fans. I am redoing my fans. Had fans in the opening working on something.

You need to have someplace for the air to go.

Take that top baffle and maybe use it to ensure the top of the fridge is sealed from the interior and the air has to go over the coils and out.

I wonder if that piece was on the side, which is why the sidewall gets hot now....

Thanks for the picture. That’s the correct confirmation, mine is not. I suspect that the black metal piece “magically dropped down” from above the fridge during the reinstall. I’m on the road right now, and mobile repairs are swamped with spring service calls, so I’m taking back to the techs that did the recall. That way, 1) they can see what they effed up, and 2) if the fridge is damaged from overheating, they can eat that too.

Even if it works, it has probably suffered damage that may make it fail later on.
