While it's a serious concern, the fix is comically easy. See if you can convince your dealer for a quick drive in service. Otherwise, a mobile tech could be an option.
Has GD sent out letters yet? I have not yet received anything.

I've also contacted GD to get the fix info...but sometimes that takes a while. I recently added some fans back there and didn't see anything that got me too excited, but I'm going to have another look. I'll post when I get their response. From the little bit of research I have done (I haven't received a letter) ...
There is a Romex 120vac wire that is run in the same cavity as the rear of the refrigerator. Apparently this wire is not secured very well and can come loose and make contact with hot parts causing the Romex to melt and eventually short out causing a risk of fire.
In mine the wire is secured in 3 places with small Romex clamps with two small nails in each. It seems secure as is so I'm not sure what method was used to secure the recall units.
The fix is to reroute or secure better.
I would be interested in hearing from you how the Romex is attached on yours since you are apparently in the recall group.
I was so incredibly excited to finally get a Grand Design toy hauler after all the RV's I've dealt with over the years. Now I have one, I'm so incredibly disappointed at how much more expensive they were and how much like every other RV I've owned they were. Yes, I do think their customer service is better than everyone else, but how I wish it wasn't needed as much as every other RV I've owned.

It's easy to pile it on GD right now with the recall, however, all RVs can have supply chain quality and build issues, particularly the last couple of years. I had a newly retired couple full-timing next to me at a campground last summer willing to trade their Prevost straight up for my toy hauler. He was of course not serious ( I think) because of the dozen issues including a slide problem never resolved. I could not imagine (no pun here) selling my house and literally adding money to that to buy an RV and still have problems.
I helped a friend winterize his new 5ver last fall. I won't name the brand, but it definitely was not even close to the design and build of my Momentum. Worth the extra money? only time will tell however on the condition of the 5-year-old GD 5vers we looked it, I think so.
Thank you for your comment. Believe it or not, it really helped me feel a little bit better about my unit, which has been pretty good to me.I posted an excel spreadsheet on this forum a short while back with data collected from the NHTSA https://www.mygrandrv.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=32594&d=1615425946. It includes ALL RV manufactures. It covers from May of 2019 through December of 2020. In that time there were two (2) recalls from Grand Design. There have been 2 since then. EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER has way more than that. This includes Airstream and many other PREMIER makers of RV's. Grand Design isn't prefect, but it's way ahead of the pack in most, if not all categories. Plus, their service after the sale is tops in the industry. Not sorry I bought one, and would do it again.![]()
Hi, thanks for your insights. You are pretty much parroting what I tell others who are disappointed in quality of their new GD RV's. So, we are not on different pages at all. Sometimes though, especially when there are issues, I think a little venting helps. GD has been very good to work with. Customer service has been responsive etc. I just finished having repairs done to the side of my momentum 351M from a minor accident involving a "road-gator" (piece of semi truck tire separated and laying on the road that I was unable to avoid). The biggest disappointment I think people feel is when they are cancelling well-planned vacations in their expensive RV's because it is so difficult to get them repaired. Mine was damaged in late July, and I just got it back from the shop in late February. Wasn't GD's fault, but still. The wait for parts was what took all the time. Most folks have no idea going into RV'ing that this is the reality, and I get why they are frustrated. I do 99% of my own repairs but there are limits to what I can do. Anyways, I digress. I've owned many RV's since I began camping in 1964. I see more similarity in the way all RV's are built than I do differences.
but when I go to the GD recall site, I see the the vin#'s for the affected units, but I do not understand it.
That's what it leads me to believe as well.I think it means you might (?) be on the list so wait for a letter in the mail to confirm. At least that's my interpretation. . . .
When I was out today verifying my Vin# (again) I noticed on another tag they had a marking indicating date of manufacture, line# and row#, so (my guess) they may have isolated it down to specific vin #'s coming off a specific line, which would account for the non-sequential mark. Anyway, I'm going to wait and see if I get a letter. I've been in the back of the fridge box numerous times wiring up additional cooling fans because it gets hot where I camp. I've seen the wiring to the fridge and have not noticed any issues, but I don't recall specifically seeing Romex so I'll need to take another look.To everyone trying to look at the VIN list to figure out if your rig is affected, notice they all have the “Not Sequential” box checked. On a previous recall my trailer fell within a VIN range, but GD told me it wasn’t affected.
