1 Ton Dually 4 X $ ?

We are new to RVing and this will be our first RV. We are looking at the 375RE. I am also looking on getting the truck to tow it with. I will get the Desiel and the HD transmission and Rear end. The Question I have is do I need to get a Dually?
Also I am looking at all fouer brands - Any ideas?

With a trailer with a dry weight of 13,600 lbs. and a hitch weight of 3,000 lbs., you will need a dual rear wheel drive 1 ton truck.

I'm a Ford SuperDuty diesel owner, and they simply cannot be beat.
 
I have a Ford F350 SuperDuty Single Rear Wheel. On my diesel 4x4 truck, I do not have enough payload capacity for the 375RE. I'd either have to get a 2x4 to get some more payload capacity or a dually.
 
Everyone will tell you their truck is the best. I think dual rear wheels for towing a heavy fifth wheel is a must. Most of the newer trucks are pretty equal, see who will give you the best buy. If you know an employee or retired employee, ask for a friends and family discount number, could save you several thousands
 
Dually - yes !
Brand - your choice, drive them all and see which one you like the best. Any one would do the job just fine.
 
For me the DRW gives me more stability with a heavy trailer /pin weight. What manufacture is a personal preference. All manufactures new DRW's will do the job.
 
The DRW will certainly add stability and a safety factor if you have a blowout on the road. I have some notes on towing at http://www.momentumgunner.com/towing_notes.html that might be helpful.

We went with a Ram after a lot of searching, but as others have said, drive them all, look at the interiors, and weigh what you feel you are getting for your dollar.

Definitely a DRW. No other way to safely go (IMO) for a 375. Brand is just a mater of choice. Drive them and see what you like. I drove all three before buying my 3500HD. Chevy just offered me a deal I couldn't pass up and I like the ride and comfort of my LTZ.

Wow! That's fantastic fuel mileage! I'd like to have a new 450, but my current income just won't allow it. If I had a paying job I couldn't enjoy it
 
I bought a used 2010 F350 dually 2 wheel drive, 47000 miles on it. Love it dually a must. Haul horse trailer and 313 rtls love the truck. My buddies have 2500HD and Cummins diesel all will tow the job with ease
 
For some of us, like us, the idea of a used DRW truck may be worth exploring. Maybe a friend, or a used vehicle source such as Carmax. Our 2008 Dodge 2500 6.7 diesel has been a great vehicle, but it could serve someone else more appropriately, such as with a lighter fifth wheel or travel trailer.
 
Look at the tow guides for the trucks. It is all weight based. Ford 350 diesel SRW max is 16k I believe.

IF you are concern in staying within the specs of your truck there lot numbers you have to consider and the one you will most likely exceed first is payload before you exceed tow capacity or combine weight ratings. A 16,000 pound 5er could have a pin weight between 3,500 and 4,000 loaded ready to go camping.

When Ford rates those they are using a stripped down truck with zero options (not even a hitch) with 5er percentage of 15% and 150 lbs driver. Try find that combo in real life.

I advise monitoring the owner sites for the trucks you are looking at. Wish I had done that when I bought a new Ford truck with a Powerstroke 6.0 deisel. I could have avoided years of anguish and about $6000 out of pocket repairsbefore I finally traded it in on my Ram 3500 dually diesel. No comparison. Lots of free info on owner sites from people who drive them every day and know the good and bad

I bought one of the last 7.3 motors in my F250. Yep, you're right about the 6.0 engine having it's shortcomings, but the new 6.7 liter engine's fantastic. Even with a couple of sub-par diesels, Ford has still sold more diesel pickups than General Motors and Dodge/Ram combined. They just did such an incredible design job with the SuperDuty that it had a 18 year model run.
 
Actually the 6.0 was built by International and the engine itself was a good engine. What messed it up was the government mandated emissions.
 
I pull my 348 m which has the same weights as your trailer and did tow it with a Srw dodge 3500 but it just didn't feel safe so I bought a 2015 dodge 3500 drw and the towing is so much more stable now!
