120v power issue

While plugged into low amp 120v house circuit dw started generator, Onan QG 5500, to cook electric vs gas. I turned on AC and all power stopped. All house breakers and fuses were good except a white breaker on generator. This would not reset initially. Battery power worked fine. Unplugged and replugged shore power but no luck getting shore power. After about 30 minutes started generator up and gen power works fine but when I shut off gen and hook up to shore, no power. Checked circuit breaker in source house with 120v and breaker is not off. Suspect transfer switch but will be a couple of days until next stop. Could the transfer switch have been fried?

Not fried but could be stuck in the closed (generator) position. Do you hear it closing when going in generator. I thought there was more to these things until recently. All it consist of is a coil that is energized by generator voltage being present after a time delay. When that's gone it should go back to shore contacts. About impossible to trouble shoot electrical without a meter. Something easy to try is to turn off the breaker and turn it back on. Sometimes they trip but the handle stays in the normal position. Even more importantly is what caused any of this to happen in the first place. As soon as the generator fired and the transfer switch closed it should have taken shore power out of the picture. Breaker popped on generator most likely from overload, if not then you have bigger fish to fry.

Justin, yes it was overload. I thought both ACs could run on generator, but countertop oven was drawing more than I thought. Will check on sound of switch. All part of our learning curve. Thanks.

I turned on the AC in my New 303 and it worked for @ 10 min. After much searching/checking i found that the red wire from 50 amp plug had not been secured under the clamp thus it heated up and dropped the 125 voltage from the generator...after temp fix power was restored but will have to replace the Furrion 50 amp side connection...the short/burn-out had caused the disconnect on left side of breaker box...Dealer is sending me a replacement under warranty.

I'm not sure I followed your description, as I don't frequently use a generator, but your lack of shore power could be a tripped GFI.
Worth a check?

To clear up my loss of 120 volt after turning on Air Condition (AC), the loss was traced to a poor connection of the red wire (made by GD at the Factory) between the Furrion 50 volt connector on side of my new 303 and the breaker box. The red wire feeds the left side main breaker. No GFI trips. After I made a temporary circuit connection through the Furrion plugin, power was restored to the Breaker Box left circuits including the Air Condition system. Finally I was able to cool down the 5th Wheeler. Once I receive the replacement Furrion plug from the dealer all should be OK.
