12k or 14k Equlizer?

OK, we did our walk on our new 308 yesterday but they were out of either hitch we could go with. Hubby can't decide between a 12k or 14k equalizer. I know tongue weight is 940ish but once both 30lb LP tanks were filled that added 254lb -/+ lbs to it. Now add up the stuff in the front pass through and what ever is in the bed of the truck and it adds up quick! We are towing with a 6.0 F250 and I know we are within weight but he is concerned about getting the right size hitch.

I've read other comment on here of going from the 10k to the 12k and love the better pull. But I'm going to take our truck to work tomorrow so they can do the hitching when or delivery comes in so I'm looking for any advice, experiences or suggestions.

No way that your propane tanks alone added 254 lbs. closer to about 60 lbs each. Additional weight above trailer spec will come from battery(s) as well. Best to weigh your tongue to get accurate #s.

As for the WD hitche, it is for the trailer weight and tongue weight. Either one will be good for your trailer weight, but tongue weight on those will likely be 1200 and 1400 lbs respectively. If u have to high a rating it will cause a rougher ride. Pay attention also to the rating (tongue weight and towing capacity) of the truck hitch as well, because you could be surprised to find it may be less than your trailer tongue weight.

We had them weight it and the propane was full and the battery was on as well and it was 1,100ish. Google searching says 1 gallon of propane weighs 4.24lbs. Hubby saw a thing on etrailer about getting proper weight and all with the camper loaded and the bed of the truck loaded from the rear axles to the tailgate with what would normally be there. Is he over thinking this?

Concentrate on weight of cargo (including people) in truck and tongue weight and that is total cargo. Check cargo carrying capacity on yellow sticker of truck driver door to see how you stand.

So yeah, we are over thinking it! lol I can't blame hubby for being cautious. We are going from a 6000 lb loaded to a 8000 trailer. We see a lot of scary stuff when we are on the highway of people pulling improperly and we helped a lady one day who almost lost her little trailer all because the sway bar wasn't locked down. It was skipping and tires off the ground!! He just wants to be safe.
