2015 RAM 2500 6.7 Cummins turbo diesel

The Ram Eco-diesel is pretty much marketed for its fuel efficiency as it is supposedly the most fuel efficient half ton on the market (40MPG). But it costs an extra $4,700 to get the engine so I'm not sure the fuel savings would be worth it. Especially with the higher price of diesel right now.

You can get the new 2.7 Ecoboost Ford for $3900 less, and it'll run circles around the Ram EcoDiesel. Cost per mile will also be less since gasoline is cheaper and the fuel mileage advantage for a diesel is not that much.

And the 2015 Ford F150 will be with us for many, many years--looking like new.

Diesel engines are made to work/pull long hours, know a couple of drivers when on their break time for hours will not shut off their tractor trailer, getting less common but still happens on older tractors. gas for the most part will likely get better gas mileage, diesel and gas engines are totally different animals. For totally different work situations.

Previously had a Ford F250 gasser, now RAM diesel. Better mileage both towing and not towing with the diesel by a long shot! AND, at least in Oklahoma, diesel is about 10 cents a gal cheaper than gas right now!

I was in Oklahoma a week ago and saw and filled up on Diesel, it was cheaper. Here where I am in Arkansas diesel is about 20 cents higher.

Hang on for a $200.00 oil change in the new 1500 eco diesel too ! The debate of what is the best truck to tow with will be a never ending debate with all but I personally can say i have towed my 308 with the Ford F-250 and Ram 2500 diesel both have their plus and minus. But I got to tell you both trucks being stock off the showroom floor the Ford runs circles around the Ram as far as pulling power up the mountains. And the Ford is not constantly shifting like the Ram but I love the engine brake and mpg`s on the Ram. Again a debate that will go on forever just a matter of preference.

I looked at the Ecodiesel filters, and they're not that expensive. And they don't require any 15 quarts like my PowerStroke. Sure it's going to be more expensive to change oil than a Hemi, but not outrageously expensive.

All the 6, 7 and 8 speed trannys will shift constantly. It's just how it is.

All in the definition of what you consider power, I think it has been proven that the Cummins is the best engine in the 3 trucks, we cannot deny that. Ford is just upset that they can`t use Cummins

Ford's modus operandi when building light trucks is maximizing profits. And they got sick and tired of splitting profits with Navistar on the retail market dominant PowerStroke diesels. Ford Superduty trucks are a heck of a lot more profitable using Ford built engines.

Remember that Ford's "light" diesels outsell both Cummins-Dodge/Ram AND GM's Isuzu built diesels combined. This is also a highly profitable retail market segment for every manufacturer.

On the other hand, Ram would like to have a bigger diesel engine than their 1/2 ton Ram truck is getting--to put into the 3/4 ton-1 ton trucks. But engineering, testing and building a whole new Tier IV diesel engine for this market would be extremely expensive. Many don't realize that Fiat and their affiliated companies (and spinoffs) are the largest manufacturer of diesel engines--far more made than Cummins and Caterpillar combined. Many of their diesel engines are very small or very large in horsepower/size.

The new Chrysler-Fiat has other dragons to slay, and is trying to merge with another auto manufacturer for economy of scale.

I have owned both Ford and Ram both gasoline. F-150 and 1500 Ram. I will take the Ram 1500 4x4 over the F-150 from model years 2003 and 2014. I do not know about the new F-150 15 models and up. But I liked both trucks and both are well. I just really liked the Ram better. It pulls great, MPG is great,Ride is Great,4 Corner suspension is really great. The F 150 had no 392 Gear ,4 corner Suspension,or 8 speed to offer in 2014 year with Comparable trucks Laramie Vs Lariat. Price was a little cheaper for the Ram in 14 as well. My last F150 had some issues and Ford would not make it right caused me to try a Ram. But I like all three Trucks, G.M ,Ford, Chrysler cannot say any of them are leaps and bounds better than the other.

I recently towed our 313 with a Ford f-250 (I think it was a 14) and an about same year Dodge and the Dodge was a way better truck the whole way around ...fuel mileage was almost double the Ford and way more pulling power up the hills if given a choice I would take the Dodge hands down. The new 1/2 ton f-150 ordered with the 3.5 ecoboost engine has the option to be ordered with a 10 speed auto trans...interesting if you are looking for a 1/2 ton gasser. I will be curious to here the feedback after these trucks hit the road towing.

Not familiar with the 3.5 eco boost. Will be very interesting to see what it does. Rumor is that Ram is to have a redesigned truck like they did back in 2012 for 2018. Not much rumoring from the GM side yet? I like the gassers myself and if I was to do to 3/4 ton I would stay gas myself. All Big three trucks have come a very long way in last 8 years or so! Most all very positive and with a great Positive price too! That said it would seem the basic 36000 mile warranties should go up with prices and advancement allowing for 60 to 90 thousand miles IMO.
